I checked my phone and saw that it was at 70% battery power remaining. Less than one hour later I took a look at my remaining battery power and saw that there was less than 30 percent of the battery power remaining. There was no apparent reason for this that I am aware of but it did happen pretty quickly regardless of what might have been connected. I am using the latest OS released from T-Mobile on a BlackBerry 8900 that is less than two weeks old.

What might have caused this? I am connected to an Exchange server so this is a BES connected device and I am also using BIS email. I was connected with my bluetooth headset for a short, ten minite, phone call. Nothing more was done on the phone during that time.

Make sure you are using the most current OS.
In addition, check your signal strength and shut radio off if needed.

I do have the latest Official OS released by T-Mobile. I am not going to use one of the beta OS versions since I value reliability over new features...though I really do want the newer features.

I am very well aware of saving battery life on the BlackBerry, and pretty much every other smartphone I own, but I do appreciate the link. I have forwarded that to my girl...she needs the help! I am still at a loss in regard to explaining the sudden battery loss though.

Do you have BuzzMePro installed?

It killed my battery for some reason a few times, although initially it worked great for me. I have been using BerryBuzz since with no problems.

maybe the phone was continually trying to make a connection, thus stripping the phone of battery life. It's a possibility

I recently had the same issue for a few days. I'd charge overnight and by noon my battery would be drained. I did a battery pull and the problem went away. The only program I had installed recently was Facebook 1.7. I don't know if this was the issue or not but the battery pull definitely fixed it.

Do you keep your phone in the phone case that came with it? If so then leave it out of the phone case and see how the battery fares? Its helped my battery life immensely.

I do not use any case with the phone at all but I would have thought that using a case, especially the "official" BB cases with their magnetic on/off control would have a positive effect on battery life. I also do not have Buzzmepro either...never heard of it actually. I do use Facebook but have not yet updated to 1.7.

I have not had this problem occur since my initial post about it thus I have not been able to duplicate and narrow down a potential cause. If it does happen again, which I am pretty sure will occur at a pretty inconvenient time, I'll try to pay more carefull attention to what is happening on the phone at the time to try to figure this out.

Hit ALT Escape and see what apps you have running. Maybe someone didn't terminate Google Maps or other battery killer apps.

I had this problem recently and for me the culprit was Blackberry Messenger 5.0. Don't know why, nor do I care, but once I got it completely off my phone my battery life has returned to normal, 48-hours between charges.

It was probably either the BT radio left running, possibly trying to pair with something nearby(?) or some RSS feed that was left on. Unexplained battery drains on a phone that you basically come to know what to expect are almost always due to a radio that's left on in the background. They are not because of the OS in my experience, and your OS hasn't been messed with either. Sometimes a simple battery pull shuts the thing off.

Last time it happened to me it was becuase my email server was down and the phone was constantly trying to reconcile and couldn't. Loads of things you wouldn't necessarily expect seem to affect these things I am quickly learning!
