Default horrible battery life

Please Login to Remove!

my bb 8900 is running tmo's stock 4.6.1.231. i am aware of the pouch issue that is draining the battery but i dont use it ever, so thats our of the question. with wifi and bluetooth off and the battery at about 80%, it will either go down to 15-20% overnight DDD: this morning my phone drained completely for some reason. this phone isnt that old and im not sure if getting a new battery would help. maybe it has to do with the OS im using. can someone reccommend me another OS? i tried loading 5.0 but desktop manager doesnt pick it up and loader.exe doesnt either. i dont have a data plan too.

even my old bb 8100 lasted longer D: wtf

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

What third party apps do you have installed? Also, what pouch issue is there? Because I've never heard of one

I've used the OEM pouch for almost a year and have no problem with battery life.

The most likely cause is that you have instango or openbeak set to add location data to your messages, causing your BB to run the GPS all the time. If so, try turning off this feature, or turn off GPS through Settings>Advanced Options>GPS and only turn it on when you actually need it.

If your phone is at 80% when you go to bed, why not just charge it anyway?

1) Change your profile on BBF site
2) I would upgrade to latest version shown on stickie at top of this section. I remember the original OS had poor success with battery life for that device.

That's your problem. You're probably running GPS in the background 24/7. Close these apps when not in use. You can leave your GPS set to location, but you can't leave an app running (googlemaps, etc) that uses it. Whatever you do DON'T change your OS to improve battery life. It doesn't have anything to do with it. Sure, if you change it your battery life will improve, because it will close out the apps that are draining the battery (d'oh). And forget the pouch thing, that was only present about a year ago when the phone came out and shipped with some bad pouches that pushed on keys.
Remember this: radios affect battery life, OS don't.

Sometimes a battery pull with turn off apps running in the background. The screen brightness can help a little but when it drains overnight you know that's not the problem lol.
