Talking TMO Pearl - Temporarily Out Of STOCK???

Please Login to Remove!

For lack of a better word, it really "sucks" that AT&T has 90 day exclusivity on newly released phones, more specifically, the BB Curve....sooooooo....as other TMO-ers, I sit and wait patiently for the release of the 83XX series BB on TMO (those of us who haven't purchased the phone unlocked). I was just browsing TMO's site and clicked on phones. Both TMO's pearls, black and white, are TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK????....hmmm....could this be some kind of indication...."OUT WITH THE OLD...IN WITH THE NEW"?????....if so...YAY!

It is odd they would be out of stock on the hot selling Pearl. Could be because the Pearl 2 is coming out, as it was rumored to debut in mid September.

But other rumors [and worthless comments by some members in here] have said AT&T or Sprint will be the first to get the Pearl 2. I say worthless because no member who has chimed in about which carrier will get it has backed up their statements, e.g., how do they know which carrier will get it first.

For all I know, now that the Pearl is featured by a number of carriers world-wide, maybe the Pearl 2 is NOT considered a new phone, simply an upgrade of the existing Pearl.

End result, maybe all the carriers who now sell the Pearl will be getting the Pearl 2. I can see where RIM would contract with the carriers to give them the Pearl 2 rather than treating it like a new model and giving it to a carrier who is not currently selling it or otherwise making an exclusive deal with a competitor of the carriers who currently sell the Pearl.

To me it makes no sense to have told T-Mobile in 2006 "Well, you can sell the Pearl, but when the updated model comes out it will go to another carrier." Seems to me T-Mo would have contracted for the exclusive, plus any updated models. Kinda like the sequels to a movie, where rights for sequels are many times included in the original production deal.

Why don't you call T-Mo and ask to buy a Pearl. Share with us what they tell you.

All the devices were pulled from the upgrade forms as well because apparently they all got loaded with the new software before release, and now all have to loaded with the 'new' software release.

So, thats what it is.

Oh well, but maybe my "all carriers will get the Pearl 2" remains a possibility?

Man my replacement Pearl was supposed to come on Wednesday but didn't because the Pearls are out of stock. This better NOT be an indication of out with the old lol. The T-Mo rep said that my Pearl should come next week.

I would say the OS update to them is likely the hold up.
