Default unusual icon where message icon should be

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all
Please can someone help me. In the place where there is usually an envelope showing that there is a new SMS message, I now have a yellow smiley face icon with a red star over one of its eyes. Has anyone seen this before? What is it? How do I get rid of it?
Many thanks

Aha! That's it, a blackberry messenger message. Thank you. As you can guess, it is my first time receiving a BB messenger message.
Thanks again.

sorry to bother everyone again. I've managed to get rid of the red star but the smiley face is still there and I've checked my BB messenger messages and there is nothing there. Any idea on how to get rid of the smiley face?
Thanks

is it on the home screen, or in messages?
Make sure all your converstaions in BBmessenger are ended.
IF that doesn't work..... reset, by pulling your battery, leaving it our for 30 sec, and putting it back in.

One other question re Messenger.... what is the benefit of using messenger over a normal email since both parties have a Blackberry?

I don't use it much myself....but my co-worker does and it keeps record of all his open conversations.

Biggest advantage is that it is just like chatting. You can see when the other person is avail, and see when they are writing back....
Plus its instant.

Pro - It's great for troubleshooting, Instant communication, if you don't have cell service you and still use PIN to PIN(BB Messenger) etc.....

Con - Must have BB to use and communicate(not everyone has one).
