Default HELP! I think I just screwed up my 8100 :(

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,
I feel really dumb right now cause I think I just really screwed up my 8100. Here's the deal, I upgraded to the new telefonica OS .67 and everything was going great, but silly me wanted to play around with the blackberry.alx file to unlock the themes. Now I edited the file from the common files/research in motion/shared/loader/8100 4.2.0.67. My 8100 still boots up however it doesnt have the home screen and there are only like 3-4 icons that have full colour. the rest of the screen is black/white. Is there anyway to fix this? I just miss having a full functioning 8100. Thanks..

I assume you hadn't made a backup of BlackBerry.ALX...

Probably the easiest thing to do is to get a copy of BlackBerry.ALX that was successfully modified by Jibi (search for it here) and copy that into the shared folder.

Then delete VENDOR.XML and restart Desktop Manager. Hope it will work.

If that does not work, use Control Panel Add/Remove and remove the Handheld OS software, then reinstall the .67 version you downloaded.

Replace the Blackberry ALX on your PC with a working one and relaunch the Blackberry Desktop Manager and go into Application Loader.

It should pick up the updated ALX file and install the working one.

Other option is to wipe the device and reinstall (lots of discussion in here on how that works).

EDIT** pfff too late

Download and install an older OS, say .64 from TMO. Run DM (desktop manager) and I believe it will ask if you want to downgrade, click yes and go for it.

Or can get um that tool... that wipes the OS from the BB and then reload the .67 OS once you've restored the blackberry.alx with the one from jibi's thread that already has the themes unlocked.

Welcome to the forums....

Jibi has a thread somewhere with all the blackberry.alx files for unlocking the themes. I suggest just replacing yours with one of his. If I can find it real quick I'll post it.

thanks for everyone's replies. Now you guys suggested a few different methods into fixing this problem. What is the most effective and safe to do? Cause now i'm really scared to do anything. I mean i still receive phone calls and such, but the black/white background bugs me so much. Again, I appreciate everybody's help

Here is the link for Jibi's blackberry.alx files. Download the one for the 8100 .67 OS and replace your blackberry.alx file. Then run the Desktop manager again and run apploader. That should fix you up.

I'm in the control panel and I noticed that I've got 2 different kinds of blacberry version 4.2.0 wireless handheld programs. Should I just remove both and reinstall .67 OS?

You can just remove the one that's not .67 (if you want), replace the blackberry.alx file with the one from the link above and then run desktop manager again.

Jibi's blackberry alx file didnt fix the problem. I think I'll just wipe off the entire OS. Right now, I could care less about the unlocked themes. I just want my 8100 to revert back to normal

Searc for JL_CMDR, its a util to wipe the BB, then you can re-run DM (desktop manager) and reload the .67 OS with jibi's blackberry.alx.

I take it nothing is happening because the DM is sensing or thinks .67 is already loaded on your BB so its not gonna reload it.

Can you get to themes and change the theme? It sounds like you have no theme installed.

No i can't. I just finished removing all the blackberry software from the control panel. I'm gonna try to load up the .67 and hopefully it works. Is there a way to completely remove the OS from my 8100. I've only deleted the program from the computer Thanks

yes, as mrpg stated you can search for JL_CMDR and use that program to wipe your BB via usb cable. Then reload the OS again. Use the blackberry.alx file that Jibi modified and you'll have lots of themes.

Yes, you can install it as is or replace the blackberry.alx with one of Jibi's. That will give you all the themes. Don't forget to delete the vendor.xml file again.
