I have an 8330, and I'm used to a quick shortcut on my cell phones to set to vibrate (like when walking into a meeting or a movie). Is there such a shortcut on an 8330 Curve?

Only shortcut is if you have the "dial from homescreen" turned off you ca press "f" and it will go to your profiles and select vibrate

QWERTY hot keys for Lock and Vibrate

Holding the A key from the Home screen locks the BlackBerry smartphone.

Holding the Q key from the Home screen turns on the vibrate profile.

Kinda sucks cause the Pearl's have that key but the Curves don't

Hitting the "disconnect call" key and then the "f " key will bring up the Profiles screen. From there you can hit letter V for vibrate.

On your pearl, just hold the # key for a few seconds.

i believe you can set one of the shortcut keys on the side of your berry to be a lock key. i have it set that way on my pearl and it's super easy.
