Default How do I get messages sent from BB to show up in GMail's Sent folder? - SOLVED

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have a BB 8300. Set it up with BIS.

I have enabled GMail through IMAP, by following the instructions on Google's website. I can't post the link, since I'm a newbie, but a simple google search for "gmail imap blackberry", and it's the first link.

It works just fine -> I get near instant email, two-way sync works, and all that.

The only issue is, any email that I send from the BB does not show up in Gmail's sent folder.

If I use the GMail App, it does show up in the folder.

I know I can use AutoBCC and set up filters in GMail to save the messages, but I find this slightly kludgy. And from reading many threads here, I get the impression that Sent mail DOES sync for some people.

So does this work, or is the only solution the AutoBCC+Filter way? How do I get automatic sent message sync working? Any help would be appreciated.

When you create the email, you need to make sure that the 'Send Using' line at the top of the email is pointed at your Gmail account.

Right! I use 5 different GMail accounts on my 8800 and everything works perfect! I will find each send mail in my send folder!

Hmm..

Strange things are happening. I do have the Send Using line correctly, and I just noticed that my sent mails were going into my All Mails folder, NOT my sent mails folder.

I sent a bunch of test mail, and halfway through, they stopped showing up in All Mail as well??? I'm lost. I'll update you guys with what I find out.

I waited ten minutes, and still no mails showing up in the Sent OR All mails folder. It's like it just stopped midway through. I'm hoping that this is some sort of delay issue, so I'll wait a couple of hours and see how it goes. I'll post back with updates when I have them

You have to set up your BIS/gmail account using POP rather than IMAP for the sent messages to go into gmail. That brings tradeoffs though.

Yes, those tradeoffs (read/unread status not synced) aren't worth it. The IMAP does work, and some of my sent messages DID show up in my sent folder, so I'm hoping that this will just work, but with some delay.

Anyone else who set up their BB with Gmail's IMAP instructions.. can you tell me if there's a lag between sending a message from the BB and having it show up in Sent Messages in gmail?

Ok, it's been over an hour, and the messages haven't shown.

I deleted the account from the web interface, and created it again, using the default settings (Not IMAP). This time, when I sent mail, it went into my sent folder. Sadly, this default method isn't cool, since messages don't get marked read in Gmail.

I then switched back to IMAP, and see the same problem. Email comes in instantly almost, and replies go out instantly, but I don't see it in my Sent Mail, OR my All Mail. I don't know what to do now. Suggestions please!

As stated previously, you have to use the POP setup to get the messages in your sent folder. It will not work with IMAP.

Well, but some messages DID show up while I was using IMAP. They went into my All Mail folder, but they were there. It just stopped suddenly, and I don't know why.

Here's the header information from one of the mails that did get synced through IMAP

Finally a solution!!

Here's what you do.

Create a Label in Gmail called "Sent Items". Now, all the mail you send from you BB will be under this label in All Mail, and you can search for it and all.

The best part is, doing this does NOT break Gmail's conversation view!

I got this info from another thread Gmail IMAP Support in General Blackberry Discussions, on Page 5. All credit to skifri and jevid .

So now, I'm happy, cause my email is syncing. I know it's not going into my Sent folder, but as long as it's in All Mail, and I can search for it, I'm good for now.

If anyone can come up with an idea for getting it into Sent Mail from All Mail, I'm all ears. Basically, we need a filter that reads the Label and redirects it. I don't think this is possible in Gmail, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

Hope this helps someone else

Adityanag, so you're aware, I'm having the same issue as you and am going to try the solution that you've mentioned. It's strange, because IMAP folders are generally very good about syncing.

Your solution (creating the "Sent Items" label) worked wonderfully. Thanks for the due diligence.

Incidentally, do you know find that you're getting message receipts in your Sent Items folder despite the fact that the feature appears to be disabled in my Blackberry email options?

You can also create the label "Deleted Items" so deleted BB items will be placed there.

Whsbuss, that solves another minor headache that I had been trying to find a work around. Indeed, I even went to far as to create a label called Trashed Items but it didn't work. Deleted Items, however, does. That's another 2 points for the this thread. Thanks a ton.
