Default BES does not recognize PEARL

Please Login to Remove!

The version of my BES is 4.1.0.38, when I connect a PEARL through USB cable and try to assign it to a user, it was never found by the program...

So far the only way I can setup a PEARL is through the wireless Enterprise Activation. Is it nessasary to install any service pack to make it recognize the new device, or it is some other problem?

the pearl uses a different set of device drivers to the previous versions of handhelds. Not bothered trying to update these on my BES yet, it's probably a SP or HF to upgrade these on the BES, wheras with the desktop manager you need to be running 4.2 DM to work with pearl.

Can you please include error message etc... and the exact nature of how and where you are connecting the device aswell as the process for adding a device.
Can you plug the device into a desktop and it works with DTM ?

trancemaasta,

I believe bertiebassett have given the answer, so I won't bother to list all details -- It's just like NOTHING IS CONNECTED, not too much to explan anyway.

So, does anyone know exactly what SP or HF needs to be installed, for my BES to recognize PEARL? I am getting more and more of this device, and doing wireless activation is too time consuming.

You can download the BlackBerry Device Manager v4.2 from the Blackberry website. Install that on the BES and that should fix your issue that you are having. It sounds like a simple device driver issue and not a BES SP issue.

The Pearl was fully supported as of BES 4.1.2, FWIW. This is both in provisioning and policies.

OK I found two solutions:

(A) Install the handheld software provided by carrier. In my case, BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.0.88 from Cingular.

(B) Install Service Pack 2 (which will upgrade BES to 4.1.2 like what jibi described above.

After thinking about it, I decide to go option (B) because I don't want to install a 70MB application just for one device, that's how large the handheld software is. There are other 100+ issues being fixed by SP2 so I guess it's worth it considering it does what I am looking for.

I concurr, SP2 fixes a lot of issues and connecting devices such as the pearl which has a 4.2 software code.

Default Pearl is causing me hell...

I've upgraded BES to 4.1.2 and device.xml now lists the 8100 (Pearl). I assumed enterprise activation would go through without a hitch. Boy was I wrong. The Pearl still does not activate. Also, after attempting 3 activations (these are all wireless activations), the entire 'Enterprise Activation' menu disappears from the Advanced Options. FYI, this is a Cingular Blackberry Pearl. Is there anyone having issues with a Cingular Pearl? So far this is the only Cingular phone causing issues. We have 2 other Cingulars (8700's) and they're working fine.

Can you wireless activate other devices?

Have you double checked the provisioning of the SIM cards with Cingular?
