Default question...

I almost downloaded and installed MidPSSH on my Blackberry, as a mobile SSH solution would be quite helpful for me. But then it struck me - how I do know that this program is not quietly passing my usernames and passwords to somebody else?

That strikes me as the main reason to go with an "established" company and pay more, because security is paramount. However, I don't have the money for these other products, so right now I am doing without.

Can anybody convince me that whatever I download from the MidPSSH product is actually secure?

(PS: I recognize things may have changed recently considering that this thread is more than a year old...)

You are one paranoid person. MIDPSSH is open source, You can inspect or modify the source, and build your own copy if you want..

With closed source, you don't have that option... now choose.

Both products have been around long enough. Try both of them out.

I used to work at Idokorro, and I feel MobileSSH is superior in many ways for frequent users of telnet/SSH. You can also even multitask multiple open sessions with MobileSSH, and you also can type in a splitscreen at the same time to transmit your text. The technical support by Idokorro is very good, if you need the tech support (you do indeed get what you pay for) and they tend to fix reported bugs relatively quickly. MobileSSH includes a free trial so you can try them out -- just type Idokorro - Remote Network Administration into your BlackBerry browser for a wireless download.

On the other hand, if you like the source code, midpssh is open source. If you do not have the budget for MobileSSH, then midpssh is a good solution.
