I receive emails from overseas. On my 7130, the sender's name is shown in Korean characters; on the 1st Curve I received, that remained the same. But on the 2nd Curve, it showed up as black squares.

I have the latest software (4.2 sp2 & 4.2.2 for handheld). Is there a setting I'm missing? This is on BES.

I get the same thing. I remember on the Pearl, I used to be able to read Japanese and Korean but now with Curve.

From what I can see so far, when the email is sent to my work exchange server, I could read most of them but when its sent to my gmail, all boxes...

I wonder if there is a way around this.

This is because there is NO language support for Korean or any other asian languages.

You will have to wait for one of the Far Eastern Carriers to get the Curve and then you can hack the language support from their Blackberry software.

I spoke with an advanced support guy from ATT (Patrick) who is Taiwanese. He told me Curve just started selling in some Asian markets, and we are not too far away to see multi language support (input and display) on Curve.

Please post anything you might be able to find here.

I also spoke to technical support @ RIM BB and also Technical support at
AT&T and T-mobile.
Basically they have Korean Character & Font language module included with device software on both 8700 and 8100 (Pearl) but not on 8800 or 8300 (Curve).
RIM said, they already have this module available for carriers to include in the
Device software but that is up to the carriers themselves.

So Pearl (8100) which is the same RIM OS version running 4.2 has this module included while 8800 & 8300 Curve doesn't.
T-mobile Technical support said, customers need to voice their rights if they would like this in the Device Software package by going to their web site:

For example for T-Mobile:
go to T-mobile's web page -> click on CONTACT US (at the bottom of the web page) -> Send us an email -> Topic (Product & Services)
-> Sub Topic (Downloads & Premium Services)

Can you please include Blackberry Korean Characters and Font Support Module in the DEVICE SOFTWARE for Blackberry CURVE & 8800. For BB Pearl 8100 which is the same OS v4.2 it already has the module included
but not for BB 8300 or 8800. Already spoke with technical support of RIM and T-mobile and its just matter of packaging the korean character support module in the latest Device software.

i had someone message me on messenger in korean i'm assuming and it came out all squares.

People have gotten Chinese working from an 8300 firmware, Korean/Japanese/etc. should all be similar to get working. See this thread:

Gut instinct is that you could find a Korean-capable 8300 OS install, grab the needed files out of it then install to your 8320 - just like they did for Chinese.

yes, post here... i wouldn't mind korean language support... being able to type in korean would be pretty cool too

8300, 8310, 8320, 8800, 8820 should fully support Chinese input and reading as their HK firmware versions are available as we speak. Head over to smartone-vodafone website, you will be amazed by the selection they carry. Basically, all newer BBs are available.

Regarding Japanese and Korean support, AFAIK HK version support reading only.

Got my blackberry 8310 the other day and thought I'd update the OS to the latest. Jumped on the AT&T blackberry download page, and what do I find??

this is the first thing I did when I got my 8310... i am no able to read both Japanese and Korean on my BB as well.

I just wish I could type in both Korean and Japanese on my BB...

I got 8320 (t-mobile). Does this software work for 8320 also?
