Problem with Enterprise activation
Please Login to Remove!
Hi everyone,
has anyone come across a problem with a blackberry (any model) not doing anything when starting an enterprise activation. It just says activating for around 20 minutes and then says retrying. This will continue until it says 'there is a problem communicating with the BES server, please contact administrator'.
I'm completely stumped... I've looked on the BES server side and can see nothing wrong. Has anybody come across this before and if so, what is the solution.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Providing that everything is kosher on the server side, I have noticed this behaviour in two cases.onewhen the handheld are 14MB and they are ugraded to 4.0 code. Secondly if signal strength is bad , check the db level in staus onhandheld.

I have had this issue with one user. Had RIM on the line and no explanation. But you can tether your device with the server and go into the BES manager and assign the PIN number of that device to the user you want it to be associated with and then it will automatically run an activation. That is assuming you have access to the physical BES server. Hope this helps.

Forgot to say...I am a Domino 6.5.1 shop with BES 4.0 HF2. SO if your Exchange I assume this will work the same way.

I have had trouble with enterprise activation before too. I have had to delete all service books and then activate again. Also are you watching the BES console when you try to activate. If the server isn't getting any activity from that device / user, then make sure the email address is good.

RIM had recommended that I do a wipe handheld if possible as well. This may or may not work for you. ANother thing we have found that keeps this from working is if the users ACL doesn't give the BES access to the user's mail file. This is something I forgot to have you check. NetAdmin is correct....if you can take a look at the logs and see if there is an error msg during the time you are trying to activate that would be helpful....usually if it is a permissions issue then it will give some kind of error that says something about no permissions to access the users mail file or something like that. Few ideas at least.

Here's a trick for fixing OTA ent. activations hangs...
When you are in EA, hold down the altkey and type cnfg. You will get a nice little info screen pop up where you should scroll down to Wireless Sync and disable, then re-enable it. Then try you EA again.
cd.

When I tried the CNFG trick I get...
PIM synchronization is not enabled on this device.
...anyone seen that before?
Signal: -91dBm
File Free: 4,683,572
File Total: 15,007,744
*edit*
I just did a wipe and now have 4,979,312 free, lets see if that changes anything.

Well, the wipe did nothing. I ended up doing a non-OTA activation and that worked just fine.

I am getting the same message... full wipes of the BB involved have not cured the issue, though I am not sure I feel that this may be a Provider issue, so much as a BES setup issue... I have sent PIN-PIN messages so the provider to handheld is communicating fine, the issue seems to fall on the backside... BES to Provider. I guess I could try a non-OTA activation... I may wipe the handheld before I do so... suggestions?

I just ran into this for the first time. Has anyone found a fix for "PIM Synchrinization is not enabled on this device." ? I get this when I enter Alt + cnfg from the enterprise activation screen for a device that does not activate.

For all of you trying this alt-cnfg trick, don't bother. If your Handheld goes to activating and retrying like akthar's was then check your SPAM filter and inbox to see if you have any emails from .

usually if OTA fails or hangs, i have found it best to just use the cable. Sometimes, a new BB will OTA in a few seconds and some will hang forever. I got tired of messing with the ones that hang. I security wipe them, put them on the wire and activaste them. When i spent time with RIM support over this issue, they recommend the same thing. First try a wipe. If that still does not work, wipe them again and hang it on the wire.

Like the comment above, the User should verify that a meessage was received from blackberry.net. Once the activation process begins, the User should verify that the email disappears from the inbox. If the email doesn't disappear, then that might be a sign that the User is using a pst (for Exchange) file, ehich isn't recommended by Blackberry.

It has nothing to do with being recommended, the BES can't see your pst, it only can see your Exchange server which means it can't grab the etp message.

Same issue - no solution
Hi,
I spent 2 hours with my companies IT support team. The ES does not get any details. What is odd, is that I do receive the email from the blackberry exchange server and about 1 min later it is automatically removed from my inbox.
This is a brand new curve. I was able to setup personal email address, but not the corporate email account.
I get the Activating... Then it says: Server time out.
I did the Alt + Cnfg and no luck either.
Please help

We've had similar problems with activation. Typically when an existing user is moving to a new device. The only solution that seemed to work was to delete, then add, the user on the BES server, wipe the device, ensure the timezone etc is right, and then perform an OTA.
