Verizon - updated platform for .591
Please Login to Remove!
from Crackberry Verizon Updates OS 5.0.0.591 for Tour 9630 Users | CrackBerry.com.
Quote:
Verizon has dropped another update to the recently released OS 5.0.0.591 for the Tour 9630. Reports are flying in that users are getting update emails, and that pesky wireless update icon is popping up on homescreens. Whats odd is that the OS version is still the same, but the platform version has been updated. At release, the OS sat at plaform 4.2.0.272, and the update being offered is platform 4.2.0.284. Hopefully this update fixes some of the huge issues Tour users were having with the last release. If you're using a Verizon 9630 you should have the wireless update option available, and it looks like no dekstop install has been posted just yet.
|
Any thoughts? I thought platform didn't really matter as much as version. Why would I want to upgrade to this from platform .272? (I upgraded manually on both work and personal Tour and have had none of the problems reported by others.)

I have just done the update which talked about a gmail revision. It uninstalled all and reinstalled all. had to ok permissions and renew some registrations. All seems to be working well and audio volume is up compared to the previous version. So far no complaints

I have Verizon and the newer platform isn't available from their website for download and it isn't coming up as an update when I connect to Desktop Manager. I wonder who and why they're pushing this selectively (?)

It wasn't through Verizon, but the email came through RIM/BlackBerry website.

That would explain why my DM said "Local copy for 9630" and one didn't - there were two versions of OS 5.0 in my DM after downloading the OS from Verizon and updating DM. Why the heck do they have to differ all the time?

Update worked great, but yes you have to put all your license codes in again for purchased software

I made the change and am not sure what differences took effect.

It still doesn't prompt me to do it OTA (and I just did a clean install last night because the phone was acting weird) and when plugged into DM, it doesn't say there are any updates. The ONLY thing I see is the second OS 5 in DM that presumably is the newer platform - but isn't the one from Verizon. I hate when RIM and the carriers release separately - especially when Verizon is notorious for being so late in fixing "bugs."

The update seems to have fixed my browser click issues. OTA was the only way to install the update. But doing so its now consumed the 14mb of memory, any way of deleting the update files now?

Why isn't Verizon offering this on their software update website? Has anyone installed the one that is within the most updated DM? If you install the VZW OS 5 and update DM 5, you end up with two versions. Without installing it, through (as far as I know), you can't tell if they're the same platform.

Nevermind I figured it out. If interested, you go into your wireless updates and you should see the option to downgrade. Use the menu key to VIEW, then use the menu key again to DELETE. Also it hasn't totally fixed my browser click issues but has improved it. Plus if the first click doesn't work, the second does.

I was just about to write that it didn't fix my browser click issues (which I thought I was nuts and couldn't use the trackball at first) but then you posted this. I don't see the option to downgrade or delete anything in the wireless update section. It only says that the previous update has been successfully completed.
I love my BB, and with each new OS upgrade, I love it more, but I hate it just as much with all these stupid bugs. I know it's with everything/every service/every OS, but it's quite frustrating. Yet I like OS 5 too much to downgrade to 4.7 where my BB was much more stable.

One new issue that I noticed is that the Use My Location option no longer finds GPS location in the Google Mobile App 3.6.14 -- there is just a "Updating location..." message in the lower left corner of the app that does not go away. This function worked correctly in OS v5.0.0.591 Platform 4.2.0.272, and Google Maps 4.0.1 as well as all other third-party LBS apps are able to obtain GPS coordinates

I've experienced so many problems with the last update that i think I may wait this one out. I do not want any new problems on top of the ones I got last time. Plus the last one did not automatically back up things and put them back ...thank goodness I had backed up my BB myself and could reload things. This last one wiped out my calendar and my Password Keeper, just to mention a few.
RIM must be desperate for us to update I received 6, yes I said 6, notifications in 2 days.
