that blue dot is actually the tower, you are within that blue circle. and 1700m is quite a ways. its nice for a non-gps alternative but not really anything else than that

I know the blue dot is the tower and the blue circle that I should be in. But the blue circle stops about a mile from where I am and also I have a cell tower 2 blocks from me. Also the map is incorrect!

The blue-dot is actually an approximation of your location based on triangulation from multiple towers. You'll notice the blue dot isn't always at the same place if you move around a bit.

I've found it doesn't work too well when I'm right next to a tower (presumably because then I'm too far from other towers to triangulate). Google is continually improving the algorithm and adding more locations of cell towers, so accuracy should be improving.

Mine is on the DOT! And when I say on the dot, I mean the blue dot is really where I am. Never really pay attention to the surrounding shaded blue circle.

No joke.

But I will notice. If I sit in the same spot, and keep "refreshing" my location. Sometimes it will pop somewhere else, like the next street over.

Default Question from Inquiring Mind

Anybody do any testing to see if the accuracy or lack of it differs from GSM to CDMA phones?

I try out the new Google Maps. Very cool! But as they said, it's in beta so the location feature my not always work. So you can not get rid of the GPS yet.

Just loaded 2.0.2 on my 8800. Inside my house the blue dot is exactly on the correct location. Amazing.

Is 2.0.2 back? If so, does it work now?

2.0.1 last I checked, too. I doubt they'll put 2.0.2 back. They'll probably fix the problem and make it 2.0.3 or something newer.

Default thanks

Thank you. I have done all of that and downloaded the google maps. I have looked all over the program on my BB and have found nothing about "My location".

Oh well I guess it's not for me and my 8100.

Thanks for the reply.
