Default Mobile network sync problems

I have had a Torch for about a week as I upgraded from a 9700. Rogers is my carrier.

Yesterday I flew down to New York City. When I arrived I had problems getting my device to latch onto either AT&T or TMo. It would make a connection for a minute or two and download emails but i couldn't seem to semd emails. But some data connections would work - I could get info through the Bloomberg app, for example.

After a few hours I finally came up with the bright idea to pull my battery - all of a sudden everything worked fine.

Tonight I returned home to Toronto. After my plane landed my device wouldn't connect back to Rogers - it would oscillate between SOS and no signal. I rebooted with the three finger salute and all of a sudden all was fine. I also saw my voicemail icon come on - it didn't come on in NY even though I had vmails.

Has anyone else seen this problem where your device won't switch fromone carrier to another without a reboot? I have had Blackberries for about 7 years and I have used thme on four continents in at least a dozen countries without this problem - has anyone seen this?

Default Re: Mobile network sync problems

You may have experience a relocation issue with the other carriers when you arrived. Normally the cell phone sends a message to the local carriers cell tower that in turn is processed to the users carrier. That carrier is required to acknowledge the device is valid and allow any calls or data to be transported to the other carrier. Sometimes things just do not go well and the location update is never sent or received. Pulling the battery or doing a reset usually will send the message again and the system will locate the user. All cell phones can have this problem and itxxx8217;s not an indication usually of a bad phone.

Not sure why you saw the SOS but maybe the carrier had some issues and thatxxx8217;s why it did not locate properly.
