Default BB Pearl no longer works as modem

Please Login to Remove!

I've been using my BB Pearl as a modem for my laptop for a few months now. When I bought a new laptop w/Vista last month, I went through the set-up guide again, but I had to skip the extra initialization step (#8) because the input box wasn't editable (even though I am the only account/administrator). The modem worked successfully regardless.

Then one night, I noticed my BB had updated/verified its security software thing as it occasionally does. Waited it out. Went to dial-up the modem again, but it failed to connect. I have tried deleting the modem on my laptop and resetting it up again to no avail.

Any ideas? Was it that last security verification thing that disabled my modem? How can I fix it?

Ok, here goes.

Start> Settings> Control Panel> Internet Options> Connections> Add>

-Dial-up Private Network
-Select your phone/aircard in the list
-put in the phone number #777
-Do not use smart card
-Rename to whatever you'd like
-Finish
Username: (your number)@vzw3g.com ex: [email address]
Password: vzw
*do not put in a domain*
-Finish

Then
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Network Connections
You will see the connection you just created.
Right-click on it and click "create shortcut" to "desktop"

Now close all that out.

double-click on the new icon on your desktop and you should connect.
(the password will appear longer than you origionally typed, that's ok)

Whew, hope this helps!

Thank you for the instructions, but before I try it out, I have a few questions...

I can see that the vzw3g.com is from Verizon, and since I use T-Mobile, I doubt it would work. Would this mean I just set up the username with (my number)@t-mobile.com or something? How does this manual connection work -- do I still even need to set it up through my BlackBerry?

Oh crap. My bad, You'd have to get that info from T-Mo. Maybe their webpage? Google?

Manual connections take out the carrier's software off your computer. Which, at times, has proven to be corrupt and cause issues.

Aww, I see. Thank you though!

Does anyone else have a solution as to why my modem doesn't work?

disable LCP extensions...

right click on your connection, go to properties... click the Networking tab. Click on the PPP settings. Uncheck the LCP extensions box, save, exit, restart PC.

I am also having the same problem with tmobile. It worked fine for 4 months and now the pc hangs on the username and password. I tried all of the suggestions above with no luck.
