Missing email body
Please Login to Remove!
We've recently upgraded our 3.6 BES to sp4, moved it to a different server in a different data center from win2k to win2k3 and moved the associated Exchange mailboxes from a e2k to e2k3 server. In case I neglected to mention, we are running BES 3.6 on Exchange (now 2003). Recently, we've had a few complaints about emails to the BB devices not displaying the body of the message - the header is there and at least in one case, the attachment indication but no body. This (at this point) seems limited to messages sent via a distribution list on a foreign mail system (our native mail system is IPlanet - the Exchange environment so far is only for blackberry users). The body is getting to the Exchange mailbox as we can view with OWA or Outlook.
Anyone have any ideas where to look?
Thanks,
Don

Filters. You probably have filters set that only delivers the header. The default is to only send header on emails you are cc'd on.

Great idea, but I've verified several times - In order to validate, I created a new DL, added my BB address to it, sent a message from my BB to the DL (which looked ok), replied to it and got the header, no body - added a couple other BBs to the list - they seem to get the entire msg. I have no filters that send header only.

Have you tried upgrading to SP5 with HF1?

Don - is it MIME perchance?
I have seen blank emails only when the content is digitally signed or encrypted, this usually results in someone using MIME, and I don't think the BlackBerry likes it.

Anyone had any luck in figuring out this problem? My email was working just fine until 2 days ago then bam, no body, I didn't change anything, my company didn't change anything my filters are fine. This is really frustrating.
Thanks;

I'm BIS user. On Saturday, I started receving some blank e-mails as well in the 2 different e-mail accounts on my BB. Some are fine, some are blank on the BB. Very annoying and I have no idea how to fix.

I am having the same problem over the past few days. Same issue as Heather and Brad. My bellsouth account (pop) works fine I believe. I have no filters on two accounts which are corporate and are providing blank e-mails in body. These are accounts that provide me with outook web access from my desktop.

I have exactly the same problem... but only with certain messages from certain addresses... not all of my e-mail.
The e-mails with only the body are not digitally signed.
When I receive the exact same messages on my desktop, in Outlook, they are fine. They do not have attachments.

Well..I have been getting something similar to this for about a month now - happens every time my wife sends me an email from her Lotus Notes (happens every time but not from any other contact or client) - the header is fine, but the text is missing. When you highlight the text and scroll through the message, it becomes visible (often slightly corrupted looking).
I have wiped my BB, sent new service books (as directed by Verizon) and no change.

Blank email body
I am also receiving some emails that arrive with a completely blank body from specific sources. On my laptop the same emails are fine. I spoke to RIM today and they think that the problem is my email messages database is damaged but I do not think that this is the reason because many other users have been having this problem since this Saturday! and everything else seem to be working fine !
I think that the problem is with BIS2.0 because when the same emails that arrive blank at the Blackberry using BIS2.0 when forwarded to the blackberry they arrive OK with the full body!

you can't read html email on your BB, or multipart / mixed messages, or RTF (like that sent by hotmail). That may be the problem - it will come in as a header only, blank body, as the html is stripped out and takes the message with it.

It seems to be only certain email formats that are causing probelms. Some emails are plain text, some have HTML formatting, some have RTF, etc. etc. The emails that I received with this problem were all HTML formatted emails.

It certainly only happens with certain types of emails, but this is something that started happening 3 days ago as the same type of emails being received last week were arriving OK ! As a test, I placed some of the emails I received last week that had a body on the BB back into the "INBOX" of my laptop and when they were once again appear on my BB they were blank !
So, the same email received last week arrived OK on my BB and today it arrives without a body !

According to Verizon, it is a RIM problem. We are in the same boat.

Blank Message Content
As I know RIM had a network maintenance on 21 July. Then all of our BIS 2.0 users keep receiving some email in blank message content since now. They look fine in Outlook mailbox but not in Blackberry handheld. Message in blank content are either in HTML or Rich text, sent from internal users or external.... which are happen very randomly. We have complained to our local service provider in Hong Kong already but still no reply from RIM Canada. I had contacted RIM Canada before of other case. Always get slow response.
Anyone knows where I can find a proper channel that we can complain to RIM about this?
