Suggestion to add a new forum for Carriers where Carrier specific threads can be posted. It could even be more granular and have a forum for each Carrier which would be even better.

For instance:

Cingular
Tmobile
Verizon
Sprint/Nextel
et cetera...

All these requests for separate forums are not necessary, you can always subscribe to a specific thread and follow it there. Specific threads to me represent an open invitation to post unnecessary material.

You are correct that you can subscribe to a thread BUT with few forums more searching is required for specific content. Creating additional forums will result in less thread searching and direct specific content to those forums. Regardless... I still think it to be a good idea to create a Carrier forum.

I really don't feel that we need provider specific thread. i always use the New Posts link on the top and it gives me all the recent posts. I don't know what we are going to acheive by disecting it futther into providers. Really this forums is more focussed on the device and then on the provider specific issues which are pretty common when it comes to troubleshooting.

If that's how you feel joginder then it would make sense to have a forum for each BB device. I think this site is more than just BB device support and troubleshooting. Adding additional forums will only help organize content.

When I need to see organized content, let's say I want to see all the threads that have to do with Rogers... I use this thing called the 'Search'... some kinda alien technology, but it does a pretty good job of helping me to organize the content for myself to read. It's amazing... user friendly... let's me organize into whatever subject I type into the thing... I was floored when I first found it... it's like rubbing a genie's bottle...

I know I usually beat the new comer up on these types of threads but on this one i tend to agree I thing carrier specific forums would be nice. I know if I type in Nextel in the search I am loaded with all sorts of just nonsense from all around the board. Stuff from when will nextel get the 8700 and so on and so forth.

I think that using the advanced search, selecting the forums you want to search and don't want to search and including and/or excluding certain words and then saving the search preference is an easy way to go about something like what the OP wants. I just think if BBF were to cater to everyone's individual wants to make things 'easier' this place would balloon outta shape into a big mess.

The way it is now works except for the MFTP problem. If forums were to be added I would think that having individual forums for BES, BIS/BWC & Redirector would be a better idea. To have an individual forum for each of the 3 ways to push mail to the handheld would be better, and then once people are educated on the differences between the 3 they will quickly be able to find answers directly related to the method they are using without getting confused about how their mail gets to their handheld.

Generally speaking, I think there are way more threads about issues configuring and maintaining push mail then there are issues specifically with an individual carrier. I know there are several threads dealing with issues with a carrier, but the majority of them stem from a prior issue, that is most likely better posted in another part of the forum.

I agree Dawg. It doesn't seem like I can make this happen being that I am a "new comer".

well My point is why do certain BBs get there own threads and not others ie 8700 7100 but there isnt anything for 7500 or 7200. It really doesnt matter what we want its whjat the admins want and as long as they have 8700 and 7100 the others will just suck hind tit. So not gonna waste breath anymore

What if.. could there be seperate forums for the model of blackberry? keeping the general stuff general in the existing forums but BB Model specific stuff in the specific models forum?
it could cut down all the could this work for that model or something....

There are model-specific sub-forums.

Also, I'm not sure what kind of experience you all have with forum layouts (I administer 3 forums (vBulletin and phpBB) and help moderate 2 others), but having forums in a granular layout is overwhelming to MOST users and presents somewhat of an intimidation factor. Most people like to be presented the most simplistic choices when given options, so the most granular and detailed choices are not always the best. This is why we only have 2 major options on most voting polls, etc. I'd rather have 5-10 forums that are filled with traffic and information rather than 40 forums that are barely populated with threads and users. And let's not even mention the 'my carrier is not listed - can you create a new forum for me so i can talk to myself?' threads for the smaller carriers - administrative nightmare.

Absolutely true jibi. I run a couple forums too and simplicity is the key. If someone has to scroll through 20 ot 30 forums to find what they're looking for then most would just give up.

everyone here would list (and keep current) their handheld model and carrier within their profile, which we can all see at each post.

every subject would list the topic accurately, maybe with a short initial for the common notices (ie. "P:" for problem, "R:" for request, blah blah blah), so that the next item will be successful.

every user would search the forum for at least one of the keywords of their query - odds are that at least one word will hit.

not that i want to really add more to their workload, but i have always thought moderators would occasionally scan through and delete threads and posts that really have no bearing or use at all. other than to slow and congest searches, what use do the closed threads really offer? especially since many of them rarely include links to the thread or forum feature (read: Search) to which the misled poster is directed. at the very least, i would think some thread titles could be edited for accuracy.
