i heard if you get sent a replacement phone through insurance they charge a fee of around 60 for not returning the old one. i wonder how many people keep it and sell on ebay or something. i mean if this was done wouldnt the carrier recognize the pin and see it was reported broken or lost and go after the seller? why risk it?

Give me a break. Do you think the insurance companies are losing money? You pay for insurance every month, plus a $110 deductible for a refurbished phone. How much do you think those phones cost? Insurance should cover water damage if it does not. Plain and simple. If tmo doesnt cover water damage then thats stupid. Sprint does. Its why I will switch to sprint when they get a bb that I like. Quit acting like a saint. Worry about more important things in your life.

I do think that they should cover water damage and I think its stupid that they don't. When you sign up for it though, you are fully aware that they don't cover it so its all laid out. And yes, I do think the insurance company makes money. Its a business! I do think that they NEED to raise rates when they are being cheated so much. Are there any decent people out there anymore? And by the way, I'm not acting like a saint, I am a saint

This whole remaining discussion on this issue is absurd. Removing the moisture indicator or replacing it with one from another BB, and trying to fool someone that it had no water damage is dishonest, whether it is to your dealer or the insurance company and it doesn't matter how big the company is or how much money they make.

Plain and simple, it shows what lengths one will go to be dishonest. And that says a great deal about the person, than some dealer or insurance policy. It's called character, and one either has it doesn't.

Do you really think the cost of insurance doubled because of scams? Based on your avatar and location of your profile, you live and work in NY, shouldn't you know how job/corporate culture is? Companies are here to make money, if they can raise the price and feel that people will still pay for that premium, they will... So do you think Itunes should raise the prices for the songs because people still download music for free? Microsoft should definitely raise their prices since some are still using pirated software right? just enough to cover their cost? It is irritating when people in general, preach about what other people should or should not morally do. Don't tell me, you never downloaded a song? never told a friend which p2p program to use? it will be funny if you or people like you come across a situation similar to the person who made this thread, and do the opposite of what you guys are suggesting. I'm curious, what is your suggestion to this guy?

Guys, the ones of you who are discussing morals, I think you missed the point... big time.

back to the message. you have ins. so report it as water damage or buy a new one and keep the old as spare parts or sell it for spare parts. I am not sure about putting any electronic device in the oven or toaster, it sounds like a good place for stuff to melt, and cause you a big mess to clean up.
you might try soaking the board in rubbing alcohol and see if that gets the board clean. BTW have you taken it apart to help it dry/ see if you can see whats wrong with it?

YES VERY PREGNANT, I think you should attend a meeting for people who love there BB too much. That is if your male, if your female your BB is cheating on you and you need to solve the problem soon.
Do BB have gender? I guess I may have assumed too much!

Very carefully, Very carefully indeed, this could be dangerous. You will need a pair of salad tongs, a wet towel, some grape jam, a hard helmet, and a friend who can keep a secret.

Yes I know I am a hypocrite for this post I may have missed the point too.
But I find this funny.

I don't know but the insurance that I was offered didn't cover water damage... the thing is though if it doesn't cover water damage but covers other types of damage then why not just break the BB after it got water damaged? I mean it sounds like fraud but that's for people that have bad intentions... your BlackBerry really broke so it should be covered... oh well I guess water = number 1 crap happening to BBerries.
I've called T-Moblie about damage that a user did to his screen (cracked) and even then they asked me if he had water damage, 'cause they don't cover it!!
SO - don't think you can just 'break' the phone to get the rebate, they're pretty psychotic about allowing you to exchange a phone and will check it when it comes in (this was even on a corporate 'we-pay-you-a-buttload-of-money-for-all-these-devices-and-service' plan.. : s

However, if you've bought additional insurance you might be in luck - the easiest thing to do is CALL AND ASK! You don't have to tell them you've already damaged the device, just say you're worried about it and want to know if it's covered.

Good luck!

IBerry, you are helarious, great sense of humor.

cliffr39, I couldn't agree with you more.

I decided long ago to self-insure, because let's face it: the real 'scam' is the insurance company itself. The insurance company is not offering a charity program, they do it to make money. Trust me, no matter how many people try to scew with them by taking advantage of one loophole or another (they have a term for this called breakage)...they are still making money. And they do not think twice about billing you $70-100 per year, and charging you a $100 deductible if the actually accept your claim.

So, my advice is to save you moral high ground, move out of the glass house, and make a smarter decision about how to spend your hard earned cash.

If the cost of replacing the device exceeds the ETF, change carriers or just chalk it up to a lesson learned and be more careful next time.

Not all carriers have such limited insurance offerings, and it is a very competitive marketplace.

By the way, is someone going to post a picture of the blackberry making out with the MAC?

jt, I agree, most "extended warranty" plans are a scam, and you are wise to self-insure on appliances, etc., and electronics such as this. I do the same.

I don't think you want to see that. It is nasty, gross, dirty, slimy, the smell permeates through the computer screen, its bad, and will leave you with a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. And I think it causes Blindness, I am not sure but that is what I hear. Unless you like comp-u-porn. then go in search late at night at a power sub station, thats where they do it, or at a apple store.
