I apologize if this is a repeat question; I searched and didn't find help.
THE PROBLEM: I am trying to dial a telephone number. First, when I try to enter a number by pressing the numbers on the key pad, nothing happens. In the top right corner there is a large "up" arrow.
When I press the shift key (bottom left key with arrow pointing down), a "1-2-3" button appears, encouraging me to hit the numbers again. When I then hit a number, a capital letter is entered instead. I've tried hitting the bottom "one-in-from-the-right" button, i.e., the caps button below #. I get a #, which doesn't help.
So, I'm stuck in no response or CAPS only, and can't dial out unless I shift to the address book and, luckily, have the number there that I want to dial.
This has happened before, spontaneously, and has gone away, again spontaneously -- at least I don't know what made it go away.
I've tried shutting down and restarting. Nothing. I've left if off overnight, again hoping the thing would reset. Zip.
I could just wait for it to spontaneously go back to normal, but that seems pretty darn primitive -- and unpredictably slow.
Any suggestions welcome. Tx in advance.
