Question Changing Jobs and Blackberries!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I currently have a curve 8300 and am due to leave my existing company and move to another company where I will receive a new curve 8300.

I want to be able to save down the data from my address book, password vault and calendar in particular so that I can upload it to my new device once I change jobs.

I have found many similar links but cannot get a definitive answer. I know that if I had both devices I could use the switch device manager but I wont be in that position. I am also concerned that my new company may use Outlook rather than lotus notes so is my address and calendar data therefore may be incompatable?

Any ideas??

I think you can still do a backup using Desktop Manager even if you are on BES. But I don't know if you will be able to restore the items you want restored like contacts and calendar. Just checked my work BB and could do the backup but when you look at restore, options for calendar and address book are grayed out. I don't know if it works the same on all companies.

The other thing you could try is saving your contacts and calendar from Lotus notes on your computer. Not sure how you do it in LN but in outlook you can export either the whole Outlook file or individual folders such as contacts.

I just checked my Outlook and I don't see the option to import LN but has Lotus Organizer 4.x and 5.x. Is it the same thing? If not you might see if LN has an option to export to Outlook or pst file. Worse case, save it as a csv file. Might be more work but you can import that into almost anything.

you can download the desktop manager software to your home computer and then back up your data...once you have your new device take it home and restore the data to the new device

Sync with Outlook at home.

IIRc you need both devices for the wizard.

What if you're getting a new job and keeping the same BB? Both old and new firms use Outlook and probably similar versions of BES, but my concern is what will happen when my old firm shuts me out of the network? Will I lose all my appointments? (Calendar syncs wirelessly.)

Depends on if they wipe it. Have you asked the BES Admin/IT Staff?

Also make sure they send a blank IT Policy so you can use it without it being locked down.

Also make sure this won't violate any company policies. ;) I know that the company I work for, this would be an issue. You can do it and it would be hard to trace, however.

Don't you have the option to restore calendar and contacts if wireless sync is off when attempting restore?
