Default Is there a way to disable Touch-Screen functionality on 9930?

Please Login to Remove!

I just got the new 9930 from Verizon. Like to have the latest and greatest, but I don't have much use for the touch-screen. I keep touching it as I pick up the phone and opening messages that I don't want to open.

Is there a way to disable the touch-screen?

Try to lower the area that says ALL, FAVORITES, DOWNLOAD, etc. Swipe it all the way down until you get the small arrow only. That may help things out for you.

I'd love an option to disable the touch-screen function on my 9930. Maybe in a future OS update.

Yes, return it for a 9780.

I'm usually in my In-box screen as I use the device for e-mail most of the time so that wouldn't work for me.

Well, that's the only way to kinda keep it from opening things. Keep it minimized to the arrow, open the arrow up to the mail, and then get out back to the home screen. PITA. No other way I can see at them moment unless someone can write some sort of script to disable it but they better know the OS coding pretty well to do that!

For the first week using my 9930 I was so-so on the touch screen. But now I find I'm actually using it here and there. Takes me back to the days of my Treo phones. Good times.

I concur with comments about wishing for the ability to disable the touch screen. The biggest issue is removing the handset from the holster, it almost always performs an unintended function in the process. Did bb test the interaction of the touch screen with the holster?

You should ask bb if they tested it.

I heard not...I hear they just build 'em and hope for the best...kinda like throwing darts.

@FOIA Gras - The issue isn't a RIM issue; it's a user issue and takes only a bit of practice to address correctly. Just make sure that you DO NOT touch the screen when pulling it out of the holster. Handle it by the sides only. That way, you won't be causing the screen to perform unintended operations.

I do use the touch screen, but the unintended "hits" on it overpowers it's usefulness. I'd rather have it completely off than the way it is.

I guess if RIM gave the option to disable it right from the first O/S version it would be like admitting that it may not work well, and users would want to disable it.

Hopefully, they will give US the choice in a future O/S upgrade.

@stevew That is precisely how I unholster the phone yet more often than not the screen displays an unintended command. On balance it has been nice having the touch screen however.
