I have been talked into looking into a Blackberry since my old Nokia 3595 has died (well, the "0" button died and it has made using it tricky)
Anyway, I know this sounds trivial, but I was sure hoping my next unit would let me run some of those cool ringtones. Just how good do the polyphonics for the 7100g sound?? Any better than my old Nokia?

I have read most of the posts talking about ringtones and .adp this and .mp3 that but no one will come out and review the quality of the tones. Does it sound like a glorified keyboard? or like the cingular supertones or mp3 recordings?? How bout it?

Sorry if I am asking this question in the wrong thread/forum. Where can I find a simple explanation of how BlackBerry 7105T handles ring tones? e.g. how does a 7105T accept MP3 ring tones? I assume from reading several threads that BlackBerry's do not read MP3's but rather ADP files, correct?

Is there a program that allows you to convert MP3 files to ADP and then transfer to your BlackBerry 7105T, e.g. similar to how Mobile PhoneTools works with a Motorola V551?

My Aunt's 3595 had a bad 7 key. I removed the torx screws with a t6 and pulled apart the keypad and there was a little rust under the 7 key. I just scraped it off with a knife and reassembled it and it worked fine after that.

I hope this is a good place to bring this up. I've been wondering for a while now why the 7100 series are the only BlackBerry phones capable of polyphonic and mp3 ringtones. Isn't this a software issue? Certainly the 7700 and 7200 series are more powerful than the many tiny Nokia and Motorola phones that have the capability.

It's a hardware issue. A MIDI file contains commands to drive an electronic synthesizer (note on, note off, play a D, play a C#, play it louder, play it softer... that sort of thing). The quality of the sound, and the ability to play more than one sound at a time, are dependent on the hardware.

Probably cost (where every penny counts) and the belief that business people don't care about ringtone quality. The fact the ringtone engine is greatly improved in the 8700 indicates RIM may be changing its thinking about what business people want. It also indicates RIM may want to broaden its customer base.

I've never used a treo or a sidekick so I don't know what they have but I suspect they have better ringtones. I guess RIM is trying to creep a little more into their market.

The 8700 series and 7130 supports genuine MP3 ringtones;
The 7100 series supports ADP ringtones (you can convert MP3 to ADP)

No older BlackBerry supports MP3 or ADP ringtones. The 7280 is an old device now - It is more than two years old now, and was designed as strictly a business device with no polyphonic ringtones.

Hey guys... I keep reading that the 7130 supports MP3 ringtones, but I can't get my new 7130e to download an mp3 ringtone from any site. I get the classic "Application can not accept the content [audio/mp3]" message. I seem to have no problems getting the MIDI tones though - even from the same sites. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Where is there documentation to support this? I am trying to find any information on how to get additional (louder) ringtones on to my 7130e. Compared to the 7100i, it is hard to hear the tones. Plus, the 7130e is missing a number of tones that the 7100i has (all of the loudest ones).

Apparently Blackberry is working on newer version of Desktop Mngr, but it is up to the carrier to release the newer version that support more applications like MP3s.
