I don't see this "unsigned version" link anywhere for my Blackberry 8800, and yeah, like everyone else, I've been getting various errors getting Opera 4.1 to install. I did fix it though.
I opened "operette-hifi-nojsr75.alx" in a Notepad file and you'll find a "<files>" tag that contains "operette-hifi.cod", which is wrong (it's my belief that is the name for Opera 4.0's .cod file?). Replace it with "operette-hifi-nojsr75.cod", and save.
Install Opera 4.1 again, and bam, it works.
If this works for anyone else, please let me know.

I'll try that later

I was able to install with no problem. Certain pages seem to stick. Maybe it is something unique to that page

I have requested the download via sms twice now, and have yet to receive the sms download link. Should I just download it via operamini.com? If so, which version do I go with: generic or 8300? I have an 8310.

You don't need to uninstall the prior version unless it's a beta but you will loose your bookmarks so synching would be smart.
I liked 4.0 but this is just great, really feels 50% faster!
|
How do you synch your bookmarks? I thought you could only do that with a backup/restore of the whole system. Thanks.

I meant synch via the built-in synch-function...go to Opera Community : Sign up and register, then you can login using opera mini on your BB and synch before upgrading, then just do it again afterwards with the upgraded version (4.1) and you should be back to normal.

New to Opera...
But why does it always ask "Opera is attempting to access a low level network connection. Would you like to allow this" everytime I start Opera? I am in a definete WiFi zone and the WiFi check box is checked. Is there away to default this to "Yes"?
Thanks in advance.

The application is not "signed" with a proper BlackBerry developer certificate, so it's considered untrusted. On the 8320 (OS 4.2.2), this causes a popup to appear when the network connection is first attempted; it's RIM's method of trying to increase security against malware/bad guys on your device. I have a few other apps that are not signed and cause this popup, it's just how it is....the only way to get it fixed is for Opera to sign their software with a valid developer cert obtained from RIM.

Thanks for the explanation, always wondered about that. Checked my application permissions many times before giving up.
On another note, as mentioned above this version allows downloading of files from within the application (doesn't switch to the built in "browser" to download the file). Does anyone know where (location on the phone) to download a new application to be installed?

Wi-Fi Question
Opera Mini 4.1 supports wi-fi now and it seems to work very well. However, when I have no wi-fi connection, Opera Mini does not seem to fall back to use the cell signal. Therefore, everytime I have no wi-fi signal, I have to change the option setting to not use wi-fi. Has anyone else run into this?

Yes, definitely annoying. Doesn't automatically switch like the built in "browser" (uses term loosely).

I had this same problem (the 907 invalid COD error) until today when I hit operamini from my phone and they recommended I download the unsigned version, which worked fine.

Well I spoke too soon, I got the file downloaded and the application installed but everytime I try and launch it tells me that it "Failed to connect to the internet" (no idea why this would be the case, every other net app works, im connected to EDGE) -- anyone else having this issue?

Disable the firewall during the installation if you're able to, that "fixed" it for me.

Does this new version work with ALL Pearl models, including 8130? When I try to get it, it says that the Pearl is compatible with 4. It doesn't say 4.1, and they only have 8100 on the list, not other Pearls.

I have the 8100 (T-Mobile) and it still doesn't work for me.. Installs just fine but wont find a connect (even though every other mobile app works via EDGE). I don't get any option to disable the firewall as mentioned above.
