Default Computer does not know its message account address

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to install and configure a blackberry on a Xp Sp2 machine running Outlook 2003. I've tried v3.6 and v4.1 of the BB Desktop manager and get the following error message with both:

THE COMPUTER DOES NOT KNOW ITS MESSAGE ACCOUNT ADDRESS.
EITHER THE MESSAGING SYSTEM IS NOT CONFIGURED PROPERLY
OR THIS MESSAGING SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED.

I am in a Corp. environment connected to a BES.

Any help would be appreciated.

Possible causes IMO:

1) Unit not provisioned on the BES
2) Bad or no MAPI profile setup for the BB
3) No connection to the BES.
4) Outlook not setup with Exchange server profile

Not trying to be demeaning here, but you really should talk to your sys/BES admin...especially if this is your 1st attempt at setting up a BB on a BES.

Thanks for the responce.

I forgot to mention that this user's BB is sending and receiving mail just fine. I just deployed a new laptop to him and the BB Desktop will not cooperate on the new machine.

I've installed many BB's fine up until this point. New and existing users. I actually have two users with identical confrigurations and the same error message. I work for a large Corp. The BES Admin is a bit of an @$$. The only advice he could give me was to make sure the email stays in the inbox and not to a PST. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something simple.

Thanks anyway.

Unfortuntely, thats not a lot of detail to try to resolve the issue with. Your sysadmin seems somewhat less than willing to help. If you provide me with more detail as to the issue on the notebook, I will try to help you.

I've seen it happen before. You can in most cases just key in the e-mail address and it works.

Thanks. I will try entering the email address manually. Something just occured to me. Could this have anything to do with the cache feature of Outlook 2003?? The last could of deployments which are giving me trouble all have Outlook 2003 with cache enabled. Hmmm.

Do you happen to have a Digital Signature enabled?

With Desktop 4.0 cached mode shouldn't be an issue. We use it, and have no issues that I've seen.

If you've just added the user to the BES, open Desktop Redirector. Redirector will display the users status on the BES which is kinda handy.

It should read "Intializing" or "Running". If it's "**Intiliazing" then the BES isn't communicating with the users Exchange mailbox or Domino mailfile.

If it's Exchange, creating a new MAPI (never use cached, it'll catch up with you in the long run) and configure Desktop Manager to use it.

If it's Domino, check that the BES has Server Manager permissions with full access (write, delete etc..) to the users mailfile.

Actually, cache mode is always a problem with Desktop Manager, regardless of the version. Disable it on the users MAPI or create a new one without it and tell Desktop Manager to use it from Redirector Settings and you should be in business.

I am having a similar issue with my Blackberry:

I have a Blackberry 7290 connected to my home PC with a USB cable. I am using MS Outlook 2002 for my email messages, which I sync up to my Blackberry for contacts and calendar only. I am not using the Blackberry for email or internet access.

I have started getting the following messages:

Every time I connect my Blackberry to my computer, I get the message that 'my encryption key is out of date'. After the new key is generated, I get a message that 'the computer does not know its message account address. Either the message system is not configured properly or this message system is not supported.'

Any idea what is causing the problem and how to resolve it?

Default Profile issues

I've run into this recently and the problem was that the MAPI Profile had more than one messaging service in it. In this case it was an Intertel Unified Messaging service in addition to Exchange.

The solution was to create a new profile with Just Exchange in it and configure desktop manager to use that instead of the profile that the user uses for Outlook (and UM).

I too am getting the same error as the beginning of this thread, have done all suggested, even created a new profile with just the exchange account (no cached mode) but when we installed the newest software, it did have certificate sync and certificate junk that appears to have installed. I have tried synchronizing and unchecking boxes in the options of it and still get this error.

I am also getting this error. I am sort of the BES admin and do not see anything different other than that the sms:id within the email account properties is missing. I am waiting for excahnge admin to add this to his profile and see if this will fix the problem. Definately is a email account issue because I tried setting up this user on two different berries and same error.

I just got the 7130c BB and I get this message. What is BES? I don't work for a company and don't have an admin.

Default The Fix

Ok, I think I found the fix for this problem. At least it worked for me.. I set up another log on user account for my desktop. I was only using one and was sharing everything with my wife. Now that she has her own log on, she also has her own working outlook account, that now also works for the new blackberry......

In other words, are you signing in onto your computer as 1 user and changing the profiles in outlook when you want to change to your outlook or someone elses?

I hope this helps..
