I agree with your points regarding the 7130 and VZW, especially the fact that it's shaped like phone and works well one handed.

Regarding VZW, I'm a big believer in finding a carrier that has the coverage you want, and need. Then staying with them as a loyal customer. They all have their pros & cons, so stay with what works for you is my advice to anyone.

Finally regarding the Pearl, it to has pros and cons. You will notice that I own a Pearl yet prefer the 7130. Here is why: There remain some bugs in the OS that need to be fixed, and I have the newest version from Cingular which I keep the software updated on. The keyboard is built on a rubber membrane with the individual keys glued in place. This results in "wobbly" keys. Not really bad, just annoying and an area that I belive could be greatly improved. The camera is average at best, the media player software leaves a lot to be desired, and finally the design and build quality is lacking. Specifically the "vertical side plates" that move and make noise when one picks up the phone to use it. The same issue that is that is now surfacing on the 8800.

So while I'm not saying it's not a good model, it just has more annoyances than I would like. As a result I find that I choose not to use it other than when I'm going out on the weekend and want a very small BB to put in my pocket.

Cheers.....

I initially stumbled around w/suretype and became quite frustrated and then some one gave me the best advice ever. [I]Do not look at the screen until you've finished typing the word.[/I} This worked great for me and now that I've got the hang of it I just love SureType. It's definitely a learning curve, but worth it.

Yeah it took me a day or so to stop looking at the screen and I found out that it pretty much always gets the word that you want. And on the very rare chance that it doesn't. It will the next time around.

out of curiosity, how is the sound quality on the 7130e? Is the handset and when paired with a BT headset loud or marginal like the 8703e?

*got the 8703e, back to refamiliarizing myself with it. I will be posting on the 8700 forum to get all the tweaks ironed out.

I have a 7130e (used to have the 7520) and love it so much more than the other. It looks and feels more like a phone and after some getting used to, cant imagine not having suretype now!

Of all the BlackBerrys I currently have or have had, my 7130c remains my favorite by a wide margin. After it's all said and done I keep coming back to the trusty 7130 because as a phone it's really clear, has good volume and works extremely well with my BT headset. I handle over 60 emails per day no problem and much faster than the old qwerty days. SureType is brilliant and enables me to type 2x faster with more accuracy.

While my 8800 is a very nice model, and the best of the qwerty BB's I have, it's too big to use one handed, something that I find extremely beneficial for me. Also it's a bit to "rectangular" to be comfortable in hand for longer periods of time.

So, I'm not suggesting the 7130 is the best BB, just the best for me... so far.

Cheers

I agree that for ME the 7130c rocks..the biggest thing about the typing that I learned is type the whole word and do not focus as you type it out. Once I realized it was accurate more than not I fell in love with it. I also agree that the clarity of the phone, design and fit are the best for ME..It is almost a pearl without a camera and expansion, which I cannot have anyway for work. I think sometimes we get caught up in the moment, but when you are all alone and think of the functionality of what you need the decisions are easier. I had a 8700c and test drove the 8800...I came back to the 7130c...

My 2 cents...

Your 2 cents..... Actual Value $1,000.00....

Very well said!

You are so right, I myself because I'm such a tech guy and embracing change when often times there is absolutely no reason to change. Kind of like the saying if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

One of the motivating factors in my original decision to purchase the 7130c is still the reason it serves me best. I need reliability, moderate size, good keys, nice display, good battery life. I do not need, nor do I want, camera, music player, entertainment device.

So as much as I can get caught up in the hype, the funny part (laughing at myself here) is that the 1st BB I purchased, (7130c) ends up being the best of the five that I currently own. 7130, 7290, 8100, 8700c, 8800.

I just had to be sure that I made the right choice, that I had the best most efficient model...blah...blah...blah.......

In the final analysis, I had it all along. How funny (or stupid) is that?

Cheers...

Have been using the 7130e since December/05. After getting used to the SureType (which took me about 1 week), I have to say that I really appreciate the stability and reliability of this device, and have not had any problems of any kind.

So I keep asking myself, do I really want to make a change to the BB 8300/Curve which seems to have so many great features (including Roxio Media Manager and a built-in Spell Checker, which I really want). This is going to be a tough decision to make, so I think the most sensible thing to do is to read the posts by the soon to be users in order to be aware of the pro and cons, etc.

Best,

CarBob

Thanks for sharing your experience with your 7130, and how long you've had it. It was very beneficial for me to hear about the long term reliability that you have enjoyed. The reliability factor is such a money and time saver.

I'm relatively new to the BB platform (8 months) so I have no long term experience with mine. However I will say that it's been an incredibly great experience thus far. I had no idea how much a device could benefit my lifestyle/workstyle. The benefit of email access 24/7 at the touch of a button is a real advantage, at least for me.

It's really tempting to buy into the newer/better/more exciting line of thinking. However conversely, it's so comforting to have a setup that works, is proven, and one can count on.

In my case, I'm a hopeless BB addict that will get an 8300, however it will be an "additional" BB and I do not see it replacing my Trusty 7130c. The 7130c does everything I need and nothing I do not. Pure functionality.

I will use the 8300 more for the "fun of it" not because "I need it". It's purely a luxury purchase.

Cheers

i just got my bb 7130e a couple of days ago from verizon. a part of me thinks it was a bad mistake because i didn't realize the trouble i would have to go through in order to get applications and ringtones and such. i agree with some of the others in that verizon should have made more things available like mms and IM chat. it would be nice to talk to friends through AIM. anyways, aside from going to handango.com for free apps, where can i go to download ringtones without having to go through the desktop manager to put them on my phone?

I am a long time BB user and I just bought the 7130e and I am loving it. Its not hard to find any software for it i use jivetalk for aim just like most everyone else on here.

You cant put them on the BB with the DM anyway there are countless threads on here about ringtones themes and all sorts of goodies just use the search button
