I turn the "follow me now" maps again last night to see how it handles my drive from home to the apple store at the mall and it did great on the way there but errored out quite a few times on the way home, so it is still a hit or miss.

Good thing is, there is a option to "check for update", so if VZW fixes it, it can be updated OTA.

I can honestly say I have yet to experience any of the issues I have read so much about. I would assume that makes me the recipient of dumb luck. To the best of my knowledge I've done nothing different than any of the other VZW users who were able to sneak in during that very narrow window 10 days ago. Go figure?? Wish I knew.

Just as an update I updated my firmware to .176, added vznavigator to my account then followed the verizon link for the DL. This downloaded Vznav 2.9.8 onto my phone and like with Dawg it just shows the green splash screen. When I downloaded the 2.9.7 from the links in this post it works just fine.

that is cause the ver 2.9.8 is for the pearl....... Which is why it wil not load. the ver 2.9.7 is made for the 8800 series and people like my self were able to get it and launch it on thier phones before verizon took down the link.....

submitted a complaint to customer relation against verizon, got my self out of contract without the penalty.
bought my self a 8800 from Tmo.
EDGE is slow but fast enough to download bb/google map, and GPS works flawlessly.
oh.. and i noticed the ringer volume is much stronger and louder than 8830.
i guess 8800 uses two speakers for the ringer not one like the 8830. (i may be wrong)
and on top of that, with the money i used to pay monthly to verizon, i got twice the minute, two 8800 for me and my girlfriend, both with unlimited data plan, and one insurance.
i'm happy with my tmo and problem solved.
now i need to sell this 8830 to someone else...who is willing to take this gps crippled crap.

i downloaded .176, added the vznav feature to my account, downloaded the OTA file for vznav from verizon website and all i get is the green splash screen. it is version 2.9.8

You need 2.9.7. for the 8830. 2.9.8. is not going to work correctly.

correct, but the link supplied from the 8830 browser menu gives you the other version...

What I did to get mine to work is to copy the link in the previous post number 164 and emailed it to myself then opened the link on my BB and installed the OTA from that.

All looks good for me on my end. Did the .176 upgrade, went to BB8830 Browser and downloaded VZNav from home page link, went to GPS services in options - advanced and turned GPS services to Location ON and I have action!

VZ Nav is positively v. 2.9.8 Build 140.

I did these same steps, but it does not work. All i get is the green splash screen.

This website (blackberryforums) is VERY slow today.

I had the same problem... What I did to fix it...

Enable VZ Navigator on your account. Wait 20 minutes, reinstall the app. Make sure you restart your phone. Then it should work.

Tried this once after 1/2 and hour. Didn't work. Tried again after 4 hours didn't work.

I'm on the phone with 2nd level data support as we speak, they are trying to figure out what is wrong.

Experiencing the same problem and have tried everything. Also on with second Verizon data rep (now third level). Please post any resolution, as will I.

VZnav, let me down big time today, I went on my lunch break to find a toys R us to pick up a toy for my son, I got lost, but when I was going to turn around and head back I figured I would put in the address of where I wanted to go and map it from my gps location in hopes that it could steer me back while I am heading back from where I came. it errored out all 10 times I tried to get directions. So I gave up and just went back to work.
