Default narrowing it down...

Please Login to Remove!

i had a blackberry 7250 for the longest time and finally got a moto H500 that i ended up hating with a passion and never using. i upgraded my bb this week and got the new blackberry 7130e that i love. now its time to pick out a bt headset. ive spent hours and hours researching the headsets over the past week and ive narrowed it down to a few but i just cant make myself decide. thats why im here. the things im really looking for, im just going to list in hopes that some of you that have had/tried can help me out on... my list of choices that i narrowed it down to are...

1. Plantronics Voyager 510 (dont know diff between SL, S, all of those...)
2. Plantronics Discovery 640
3. FlaminGO
4. Jabra BT250v
5. Jabra BT500 (which i know doesnt have vibrate feature but dont know comparison to the 250v)

and to be honest im open to any other suggestions of headsets based on criteria im about to list!
But the things that im look for most are....

1. Sound Quality (more importantly electronic interference and loudness)
2. Vibrating mode while on ear (which i think is only the jabra bt250v)
3. ear comfort (which the front-runner seems to be the plant disc 640) but taking into consideration weight, long-term wearing, soreness, etc.
4. ease of use as most of my time is spent room to room (so ill have it on all day, 10 hours a day, and can rarely pick up the phone to hold to my ear) so buttons, volume control, answering/ending calls, call-waiting, etc
5. ability to keep phone on silent, hear ringing in ear but inaudible to others
or phone on vibrate/ headset vibrate. phone ringer loud, etc....
6. feedback/static/etc issues. like i said, when i get this i will use it all day everyday. not just in the car but all of the time so i need to make sure its good quality for my listening party and myself with as little interference as possible. i will be indoors.

i know this is a lot of stuff for a first post, but ive really been doing my research and just cant seem to decide for myself. looking forward to hearing back from you guys and finally making my purchase! thanks in advance...

yeah i looked at barjohns and and the only thing he had reviewed was the flamingo and the plantronics 510, so... they were helpful and i found other reviews and diff sites. cnet was worthless. but i found a few others. but i thought id turn here in hopes of finding people that used them, day in day out. hopefully had tried a few off of my list, and can help me with the decision. i dont mind shelling out the 150 or what not, and i dont mind looking like a star trek extra when i walk around, but i want to make sure ive got the most bang for my buck and the best all around headset that i can get. im looking long-term you know.

if you dont mind me asking, what headset if any are you using and how do you like it. how does it measure up? thanks for the reply.

I have a BB 7130 and use the Jabra BT350v and although the sound quality is good, the volume is not enough and the pairing is hit or miss.

Wirelessly posted (7250/4.0.0.204: BlackBerry7250/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

My one complaint regarding the Jabra BT250v is the omnidirectional mic pickup. It is great in a quiet room but picks up loads of ambient noise. When walking forward or standing in a breeze the mic often picks up wind noises which severely degrades the quality of your voice on the recipient's end.

Otherwise I loved that unit. It is very comfortable and I often wore it for several hours at a time.

I am also shopping for a BT headset. Don't really need it - just kinda hankering for it. I use the Etymotic EtyCom headset now. It is wired but it is absolutely great.

Default so...

we can rule out the 250v b/c of the bad ambient noise and low volume?

and the 350 due to the pairing issues?

anybody do counter this or agree?

anybody else with any input? look forward to it and thanks so much to you guys that have already posted and helped me out.

I read some comments on the Moto H500 and Plantronics Explorer 320. Both seem to perform well on the BB 71xx platform. Maybe more people using the 7130 will chime in..... someone on the forum mentioned VZW internet sales said the 7130 was out of stock!

I just picked up the motorola H700 (it's a new version of the 850, which I was not happy with due to its picking up lot's of background noise and being loose fitting). I'd recommend taking a look at it. I was also looking at the 640, but decided to try this out first since I could buy it in a store and return it if I wasn't happy with it. I've only had it for a day (using it with a 7130) and I'm very happy. It does a great job with background noise, fits well, and is very light. You can also use the USB charger for the 7130 to charge it which is a nice bonus. I was also looking at some of the Sony-Ericsson ones (hbh-300 and hbh-660). I've read lots of good things about the outgoing sound quality of the prior, but have no personal experience with it. Just some thoughts. I did try the Jabra 350v and ended up returning it. It sounded okay, but was loose and really wasn't anything special in my opinion. Hope this helps.

I love my new Plantronics Voyager 510 with my 7130e. It is extremely comfortable and the volume is excellent.

I saw the H700 on http://blueheadsets.com and it does look nice. I may give it a try.

From the list on the first post above. I'd give the flamingo excellent marks in numbers 1,3,5, and 6. And now the Mot H700 I would add #4 to that one as well. I had the previous Mot HS850? and the flamingo beat that but this H700 is the best to date with sound quality ( I have hr commute in my car and to test even put my window down at 50 mph and the person said could hear me quite well still ).

Default getting closer...

hey guys

thanks so much for all of the input.

it looks like its a reap toss-up for me now. come down to the two plantronics (640 and 510) and the moto h700. the only thing i worry about with the moto h700 is the same i had with the 850 my friend has and that is the comforth. i know the plantronics 510 is comfortable, heard that the 640 is, whats the news on the moto 700? does it have the noise cancellation or not? what about echos? how long have you been using it and what are you total thoughts/reviews? sorry so many questions, narrowed down to the three now.... thanks for all the info so far and thanks in advance for answers to come...

Been using the moto H700 since the weekend. Sound quality (volume) and noise cancellation seems marginally better than the HS850. Comfort is way better. Lighter, fits snugly onto the ear, no flapping around it. And I love the active boom.

yes the comfort is why I ended up using the flamingo more than the hs850. But the H700 is so small and virtually weightless I don't even know its on. and the noise reduction and echo cancellation is the best I've had yet.

I have to agree with Sirgruffil, I think the H700 is very comfortable, it's so light that I've literally forgotten that I had it on at times. The H850 was very floppy by comparison and felt as though it would fly off if you turned your head quickly.

In terms of quality, the only other really good ones I've tried (and I've been through about 10, they love me at the returns departments, haha) are the logitech ones. The older mobile freedom was excellent in both incoming and outgoing quality and it's cheap, I think you can get it for like $30-$40 now. It won't win any style awards though and it does get uncomfortable after a while. I picked up the updated Mobile Traveler and while it is much lighter and more comfortable than the prior model, it doesn't sound as good on the other end from my tests.

So to make a long story short, the H700 is definitely the most comfortable headset that I've tried to date, although I haven't tried the plantronics 510 or 640. There's hardly a comparison to the motorola 810 and 850 though (which I have tried and returned).

I'd recommend picking up whichever one you can get in a store nearby so that you can bring it back if you're not satisfied. Paying $120 for something that you might not be happy with and being stuck with it would be pretty beat.
