Default 8300 better than 9700 for distinctive ringtone. Why?

Please Login to Remove!

2 months ago y changed my 8300 for a 9700.
Everything is better but the call ids distinction.
I transfered all my contacts keeping the format for numbers : +598 (94) 12 34 56 78.
In the 8300 everything worked ok.
The 9700 did not recognize the numbers (not phone and not sms).
After a OS upgrade (to v5.0.0.979) RIM corrected that for phone calls. Phone is now recognizing phone ids. But not for arriving SMS.

I wonder:
1) When correcting. Why did they not correct the same problem for SMS.
2) Can't they apply the same 8300 software routine in the 9700 software. Is it another software company that develops the software? Why do they downgrade that?
3) Do I have to change my 1500 contact numbers format because RIM does not take care about this simple problem (I can not believe it is difficult to correct the software)?

Country code is wrong or missing

Modify the Country Code.

On the BlackBerry smartphone, open the phone application.
Display the menu and select Options.
Select Smart Dialing.
Set the Country Code field to xxx ( what ever the code is for the country) .
Display the menu and select Save.

the US uses 1 as an example.

you may have to fix some of your contacts.

By the way RIM sells Blackberrys in a lot of countries so Uruguay is not the default.

tsac, thanks for your fastreply.

Country code is not the problem. That is ok.

Phone calls are recognized by the alerts with this country codes as they are.
Problem is only with the SMSs.
All this country codes worked fine for SMSs in the 8300.

Thanks anyway and regards, Harry

Ok , one additional issue is if the content protection is on the 9700 will not use the senders info in the address book. This is a know issue and RIM is working on it. Not sure if this is applicable to your problem but it might be.

they do not have a fix as of yet.

My 9700 stopped showing the caller's name on several incoming calls even though they were in my phone book. I searched several sites for clues. Finally went down to the service provider to see it they had any ideas. Turns out they had "upgraded" their equipment but downgraded my service from 3G to 2G. The assistant entered something on her screen and told me to do a battery pull in one hour. One hour later, the problem was fixed.

What I miss from my 8320 was the ascending ring tone. The incoming call would start on vibrate, after 3 vibs, the ringer would start and would get louder. Great for the workplace, where I though the BB was supposed to be king!
