Default Returned to a BB and still hoping to 4G LTE

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I recently came back to the BlackBerry community after spending the last 5 months with the Android HTC Thunderbolt. I loved the speed, the apps, the UI and most everything else, Except for the lack of an integrated Inbox for exchange mail.

Ultimately I need a device that I can rely on for email message in a MS Exchange / BES environment.

After having so many versions of BB over the years I was swooned away with fast data, only to return a bit wiser, and sedated with a platform that just does what its supposed to do.

I have to wonder if I'm the only guy who yearns for 4G (LTE) capable BB? I've search the forums here only to see a scant few posts regarding 4G, and the only promising rumors posted last December!

I tether my BB to my laptop for internet connection when I'm away from home (I never trust 'hot-spots') and would LOVE to have 4G for this reason alone, not to mention pulling up corporate SharePoint sites, and the occasional YouTube video. Yes, I can do these things now on my 3G phone but it would be so much better with a 4G BB

Has everyone given up on 4G for a BlackBerry phone? I know RIM is slow at adopting things, but is there any hope on the horizon?

patiently waiting. . . .

If you recall how long it took BlackBerrys to get 3G you might be waiting a while for 4G. There are no plans currently (that I know of) for a 4G BlackBerry.

One of the BlackBerry's strengths has been battery life and we all know what 4G does to batteries. Personally, the way I use my BlackBerry, I'm very happy with no 4G and better battery life.

Yeah, I'm wondering what 'a while' will be (thats a rhetorical question)

Actually, it wouldnt be that bad on the battery life. The biggest drain on my Thunderbolt was the screen, and the Blackberry screens are no where near as large or as power hungry than the most of the android line up (I can only speak about HTCs)

I think RIM could pull it off, and what a nice device it would be, particularly with the new 7 OS

Check the threads on the new devices that were recently announced - the 9810, 9850, 9860 and 9900/9930.

I think they will all be 4G capable.

Thanks, but where did you see that?

When I went to RIM's web page about the device it did list the following:
9850
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
Single-band: 2100MHz UMTS/HSPA networks
Dual-band: 800/1900 MHz CDMA/EVDO REV A networks

From what I gather the Vzn 4G LTE spectrum is on the 700MHz frequency

Use our SEARCH feature or look in the 9800 and 9900 sections.

I don't see LTE or WiMax listed for any of those new devices.

Was thinking the 9900 series post said LTE/4G. Could be mistaken though. I read it on Engadget.

I need HSPA+

However, I'm still on an old $20 BB plan so I bet TMO will make me change plans to get 4G so no thanks... I don't need my news any faster.
