Wirelessly posted (8320 Curve: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Telnav is $10 USD a month. That's really ur only option unless we crack the software... Which is EXTREMELY COMPLICATED on a berry

My service is with Alltel and my GPS works with the built in Map service. I've never had Telnav on my phone.

Sometimes it takes quite a while to get the first Satelite lock. Go outside with a clear view of the sky and with cell coverage and go to Options >Advanced Options >GPS and refresh the GPS several times and see if you can get a lock.

AND, it can take up to 10 minutes for a new GPS refresh.

When I go into my Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS I only have the options for GPS Data Source (with the option Device GPS) and GPS Services (with the options Location ON or Location OFF). How do I find this refresh option?

Much thanks!

Is GPS disabled by your carrier? Refer to the posts toward the top of this page.

This is where I have a problem, also. While my GPS is working with Maps and with Google Maps, I have no option on the GPS page to refresh either, so I can't get My Location either. (I'm with Allte.)

If the GPS is disabled - is it done via the BlackBerry software or is it done via the carrier's network somehow?

I have Sasktel (Saskatchewan, Canada) and I don't believe they disable GPS but I did install the newest BlackBerry software found in this thread which is from US Celluar I believe (if GPS is disabled via BlackBerry software does anyone know if US Celluar disables it?)...

It is done by the carrier, not the Operating System or software. Loading another carrier's OS on to your device won't block or enable the GPS.

When you are at Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS, press the Menu key (left of trackball). That is where the "refresh gps" should be.

Thanks for the help JSanders - I feel like I am actually getting somewhere with this now.

I don't have the Refresh GPS option so my carrier must disable it. Do you have any knowledge of how they do this? Is it done on the phone or through their network?

Well if it is like Verizon does, it can't be undone, and is discussed, cussed and asked about daily on the forum here. There is no way around it.

Now, I am NOT positive that is the case with Sasktel... so make sure you inquire with them. For instance here in the US, Sprint does not disable the GPS.

Just to confirm before I call Sasktel, even if Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS -> GPS Services is set to Location ON it's still disabled because I don't have the Refresh GPS option?

Thanks again!

No, I didn't say that. I said I don't know if it is disabled by Sasktel.

At least it does have "Device GPS" in the source. That is why I am confused.

But I don't understand why it doesn't have the "Refresh GPS" option in the menu.

Ah, I was just wondering if there was a surefire way to tell that it has indeed been disabled.

Do you know if the Device GPS would show up in the source if it had been disabled? Or any other way of telling?
