Can I do all this directly on the handheld? Or can you point me in the right direction for a Curve user with a Mac?
I have a Mac, so no Desktop Manager for me.
TIA.

Really? I removed them from my 8310 when I upgraded to 4.5.0.81 (.55) and had absolutely no problems. Was I just lucky?

Smile TO JOHN and others

John, I work at ATT with the Advanced Network Services (ANS) group. Thanks for displaying the info in away that anyone should be able to understand it. The BB phones like other cellphones are the computers of 15-20 years ago. Back then, you used up your RAM and had to reboot the PC. The BB phones are basically using the same technology. Turning off phone, pulling battery is the same as doing a restart with the PC. Today the BB phones are looking for available RAM and if they dont find it, the BB phone starts deleting what it can. Sometimes the only way to solve this is to doas you suggested. Download software FROM YOUR OWN PROVIDER. DL two packages, one being the desktop manager software and a new handheld software for your model. Thats takes time, install desktop manager first, and then the handheld software. Follow easy instructionson the computer screen. Your BB device will be WIPED clean as it overwrites your handheld software. If you are using a BES, contact your BES admin before you do anything.

Thanks for clearing that up. I think you need to do a little more reading.

I noticed custom folder icons in 4.5.0.81 are located in net_rim_bb_media loader_folders_320x240_b.cod, which is only 86kB. Nice to have this separate from any themes or bloated media packages.

(Also, thanks John, for publishing this wonderful guide!)

Unhappy Same problem with low memory

Hi,

I'm having the problem with low memory - texts not even reaching my phone, zero call log, no 'sent' items saved, etc. I want to follow the steps outlined in one of these top posts but I have a Mac and nothing seems to match up. I installed PocketMac for BBerry and sync'd my contacts so at least I won't lose those.

What is this 'battery pull' that has come up several times? Simply removing the battery? That did not work to fix the issue. I am extremely frustrated and the AT&T store is simply telling me to get a new phone. We replaced my SIM card a week or two ago and it just exacerbated EVERYTHING.

Can anyone help me?

The 'battery pull' is just that... with the power still on to the phone, pull the battery out... wait about 30 seconds and reassemble the phone. It's one of the 'universal fixes' for all things Blackberry.

The first post of this thread is the help you need. I would make sure you're using a media card in your device so that photos and ringtones aren't being saved on the device memory. Then find a freind with a PC and follow the instructions above.

Hi,
I'm a firefighter as well. I get the "In the line of duty" RSS feed through viigo. The majority of those podcasts you are trying to view are 30 + megabytes. I get the same message when trying to listen to them. So, I don't believe its possible. It will allow you to read the podcasts though.

If you figure out something, start another thread because I would love to know.

Don't use this thread though. It is for "Optimizing your BB".

Doug

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

I highly doubt you'll be able to watch those on your BB if they are that large.
