I recall a 4.3/4.5 theme out there that had a blank screen (no icons) which was great if you wanted to show off a wallpaper.

Does anyone know if there is a similar theme somewhere for the Bold?

Do a search for and try the "GhostRegTime" theme. I think it may be just what you're looking for. It's a minimalist home screen theme that really show's off the wallpaper.

Yes but now you are at the mercy of the machine and will slave hours upon hours making the "perfect" theme for your phone, and the next and the next.....

Now you're telling me I'm hooked already, luckily there's a simulator so I don't need to reboot every 2 minutes to test and re-test...
