Default music player sucks (8830)

Please Login to Remove!

So I have almost a full gb of songs on my SD card, verified they are there, in the Music folder, they show up under the file/song list on my BB, but in the music player (which organizes by artist, album, etc) only about 10% of the songs show up...what gives?

Do you have the proper ID3 tags filled in on each of those tracks?
That is how the 8830 (and just about every other digital audio player) organizes and catalogs music.

yeah they are mp3's

most of the tracks are tagged fine, because the first time i loaded them on...about 90% of them showed up, and then next time i look, there are about 20 songs (out of 150)

this is why i use explorer as my music organizer, i cant stand how programs like itunes etc. function

If you choose All Songs, they all should show up. If you choose Artist or something else, they might not all show up depending on the tags on the files. Media Player is still a little plagued with indexing issues as well.

even when i deleted all the songs from the memory card, it still showed those few songs in the music player

is there a way to force the app to recreate its file list?

After the OS becomes aware of new files, it runs an indexer to read all the tags. This took 20 minutes for me when I inserted a 4gb sd card with 3.5gb of music. Give it a chance.

I don't know if this is the case, but when I try to add aac music to my 4 gig card, only the non drm music shows up.. the stuff I paid for and bought from itunes are protected and show a closed padlocked on the file when I view it throgh the computer,, the protected don 't even sh ow up in the handset
the aac plus that don't have any drm anymore show up fine on the handset fine and play fine.

Hey, guess what? It's because iTunes music won't play on anything without Apple DRM... so it's iTunes and iPods. Imagine that...

Exactly -- that's why it's DRM! Sux eh?

well, somewhere between me restarting the damn phone 5 times, reseating the battery, and uploading all my music to the SD card a few times (including a couple in BB Desktop Mgr. - which took FOREVER) i got *most* of the music to show up.

about 90% is there, but still some random songs within albums are missing. they show up in the file explorer but not media player. these are tracks which were ripped at the same time and same way as songs that show up. i guess my BB just doesnt like certain Pearl Jam songs. eh, whatever.

any chance for a third party music playing app?

To be fair, most anything doesn't like Pearl Jam songs.

I had this problem initially as well, the first batch of songs I put on the card showed up fine (about 25), then as I added additional songs (few hundred), many would not show up. I had mine organized on the card in artist and album directories, which I think may have been the problem. The indexer may have an issue with finding all of the songs nested in directories. I moved all my songs into the artist directories (I removed the album directories) and it seems to have worked. I think some users ended up putting all songs in one top-level directory. If you search around you'll probably find more information on this.

When I burn my itunes music to a CD and place back through Roxio, it works fine. For whatever reason, itunes let's you burn to CD, which removes the DRM.

Video is another issue.
