Default 8320 restarting after OS 4.5 upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded my 8320 BB to the latest version 4.5.0.75 and it keeps on restarting every couple of hours.
Does anybody know something about this?

Many people experienced this problem on the 8100 when they upgraded.

I don't know much about the 8320 but these things worked with the 8100. Try removing all 3rd party apps prior to your upgrade and then after your upgrade add them back one at a time and see what happens. Also you might try reformating your SD card if you have one. Also check your free memory. If low you will need to erase some stuff. Pics, songs etc can eat up memory if they are stored in device memory.

Hope that helps.

My problem was the media card. Just back it up, reformat in 4.5 and copy contents back to it. My 8310 has never rebooted since and i've done all the betas.

Good Luck

It seems that the rebooting and slow performance was from the 4GB microSD HC card. Now I went back to my previous 2GB card and it's working fine.
Thanks for help

geo, if you simply reformat the 4gb card in the device with the new OS , youshould be fine and good to go. Move the file off to the PC, reformat, and move the files back from the PC to the Media Card.

Do NOT move back the "blackberry.dat" thumbnail files from the PC to the media card, those seem to be the culprit.

Unfortunately even with the 2GB card it reboots by itself a few times a day.
This card was formatted with BB.
With the 4GB card the BB device was much slower in the menus and also when I was listening to music it had some short interruptions, as it had problems with reading from it or something kept the processor at peak utilization from time to time.
I will try again, but this time without moving the file you mentioned.

I have an TMO 8320 and it rebooted constantly while on phone calls (UMA and EDGE). I tried the different betas and even the official .52 release, reformatted my 4gb media card, removed it, went down to a 32mb media card, removed all 3rd party apps, even wiped the phone and reloaded the official release. Nothing seemed to work. I ended up downgrading to 4.2.2 because the reboot issues were getting annoyed. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Remove the card completely and see what happens. usually the rebooting stops when you remove the card, proving that the media card is the issue.

I also have the latest Orange OS and the phone keeps on restarting for no apparent reason. I tried formatting the card with the 4.5 OS and nothing changed. I will try again to reinstall it to see if it's better this time.

It seems the key step that everyone is forgeting here is once you have reformatted the card DO NOT just transfer the files back in mass. Before tranfering them you need to remove the BBThumbs.dat file from the folders on you computer. In some cases you may have to enable viewing hidden files to see these. Once you delete these you will be able to send the files back to the BB and it will create new BBThumbs.dat files that are compatible with 4.5. I would bet that you could just remove the BBThumbs.dat files from the Media Card and this will resolve the problem too but you have to make sure you get them ALL.

EDIT:
I found the easiest way to get them all is to do a search of the folder or media card in windows exlporer for BBThumbs.dat (being sure to go into advanced and select include hidden files) then once it lists them all....delete them all.

Just so I'm understanding, when you reformat the media card, you do that from the device itself right, and not from the PC, right?

Yes, format the card using the BB.

The .dat files aren't always the culprit. It can be any file on the card. I recommend NOT transferring the .dat files back and then copy files back one folder at a time (don't copy the folder itself, but just the files in it.) Then try the device after each folder. Hopefully, if there is a file that is causing the problem you can narrow it down to the folder and then to the file.

But the BB is up and running well without the Media Card.. you have narrowed it down to that. That is good. I know you said you have formatted the Media card, and deleted all bbthumbs.dat files from the card... but perhaps you should double check.
