Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I recently changed from a 7105t to the 8700. I loved having the option to hold down the * key to turn on just vibrate mode.

I missed having that feature on this phone until I accidently held down the "mute during call" button on top and it turned on vibrate mode.

Please tell me that people knew about this. I couldn't find anything online.

Nope. That feature is not available as far as I know on the 8700 series. If you're able to do this you would be the only one I've read about that has this feature. Could be a carrier-specific feature, but I don't think so.

Perhaps it's a feature that has been added to OS 4.2, then. I've seen many threads by 87xx series owners lamenting the lack of a quick access key to change profiles (like on the 71xx series). I know on my device holding the mute button down does nothing at all.

Default Nice Find

I have an 8700c with 4.2 and holding down the mute key now toggles between the active profile and vibrate.

Thanks for sharing.

Default Mute = vibrate

I have an 8700c preloaded with 4.2 and my mute button DOES turn on vibrate mode.

Feature confirmed here. . . what I noticed is that this only works one way, meaning from a profile other than vibrate to vibrate.... I have my BB profile on Vibrate to begin with so i didn't notice it when I first tried it out . . . when I changed Profile to Normal, holding down the mute for abt 2-3 seconds changed profile to Vibrate . . . also, tried the feature on an active call and that didn't work for me . . .
