With the latest update - I had BING added to my applications on my phone. This does not make me happy. It seems that Microsoft paid RIM to put this on there and we need to get paid to have it added to our phones. Now - I do not like BING - I don't want BING and there isn't anyway Verizon Tech support can take it off. Of course if you call RIM - then you need to pay for support. All I want if BING off my phone........I will not use it - ever.... I want it off...

sorry about the rant but I get tired of people putting things on my computer - phone I don't want and no easy way to get rid of it.

Move it to a folder and hide it. Note that VERIZON pushed it there.

Without using the Google Apps, I wish I could have my default search engine back to google!

I called VZW about it and they told me there is nothing I can do about it.

Disappointing....

Thanks I did hide the dang thing.... I would also like my Google back.... I know it is about money but at the end of the day we pay for the service and we should have a say in what is added to the phone. It is a democracy - now - but I pay a lot of money each money to Verizon and that should give me some say as to what gets added to my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contact Verizon Wireless Customer Support.

Bet if you read the End User Licensing Agreement (that we click "OK" on without reading), you've given Verizon Wireless permission to push software...

Yeah, like we REALLY have a choice with a EULA. We could tell them they can turn our children into squirrels, and there isn't a hell of a lot we could do about it except go sign an equally onerous EULA from one of their competitors.

If you want a browser with search options, you can try the new beta for Opera Mini. It has Google on the search tab, and you can add others

No, that's called biting one's nose off to spite their face. Or throwing out the baby with the bathwater. We all (most of us) know that Verizon's coverage is excellent, and switching carriers is a childish and dumb idea over a fixable issue like Bing as a search engine. Calm down, people.

Realistically the EULA is only as good as what a court or the FCC allows. I expect that this type of behavior on the part of providers will result in a court or FCC review. Why?

I'm rather surprised at that feedback that I'm seeing.

Yes, you can hide the application from the home page, I certain did that as soon as it showed up, but the problem that i have with this, as Im sure many of us here do, is that it was put on the web browser as the only option for a search engine.

I'd love to find a way to remove this 'microcrap' search from my web browser and return to my google search as well, that really was the original request.

I agree with the overall sentiment of the thread. As NJ said, hide it. Take it one step further and set Google as your home page. I rarely go to the "Go To..." page and use that search engine. If you don't want Google as your home page, at least bookmark it. It takes a couple more strokes but it is an option.

There is no known way to stop your provider from sending down Service Books, and there is nothing you can do about it. Moose - I am sorry you don't like the answer, but it IS the answer.

have you considered just deleting it? I delted the program the day it was pushed to my phone. No biggie.

Or you could have the temerity to remove it with MCP.

Are you being forced to pay some recurring fee? If not, delete it. What's the biggie dah?

What is pushed is a service book to put the icon on your desktop. It isn't the actual app. Clicking on the icon will prompt you do download the app. Yes, you can delete the service book, thus removing the icon from your homescreen. However, Verizon can and will push it back down to your device.

That's why the suggestion of hiding it was made.

Nope, I hid the Bing icon about 30 secs after Verizon pushed it to me. Yet about a month later, I got nailed with Bing as my default web search. The Icon and the browser change are two independent things.

I hid the Bing icon as well, never installed it. However, Google is still the default search engine in my BB browser. I will admit, if it changes to Bing, I won't be happy. But, I'd probably just make Google my home page like scassel suggested.
