Default Forcing a service carrier when roaming

I roam frequently to a spot in Michigan that I know has at least 2 GSM providers. My Curve roams and gets a very poor signal on only one. Can I manually select the other carrier if the other one is stronger? If so, How?

Options > Network > move from automatic to manual as long as there is a roaming agreement, you should be fine .

Roll down and highlight 'automatic' and click the trackball.

You know, I don't see the automatic/manual setting on my 8800 either, what are we missing. It is there on my 8700.

I just tried it again on the Curve and there is nothing. My old 8700 had it. Could it be that the 8300 does not have that feature?

The 8300 does have that feature. Where are you and what OS version are you using?

off the top of my head you may be in an area where there is no other network to switch to. Or if you are using the stock at&t OS manual network selection may be disabled to save at&t money.

I am using the o2 operating system on the curve in Manhattan and I am able to manually select the network I am connected to.

I believe that Cingular/AT&T has the sim overide the network selection option.

I am using the ATT OS 4.2.2.89. Does AT&T have a newer version?

Not at this time. The latest OS is 4.2.2.265 which is SmarTone Vodafone.

It isnt a matter of newer, it is a matter of at&t possibly (as wallyn said above) forcing the phone to remain in automatic mode so there is no possibility of a customer manually forcing the phone to roam and driving up their costs.

I am not in a position where I can reinstall the at&t os right now, so I can't verify this for you. Perhapse if you have the time you can try installing the o2 OS which is slightly older then the at&t os but has very few restrictions. (or the newest os in the stickied thread at the top of this forum)
