hmm... could this be ISP specific (Bell vs Telus?) Can you see anything the Bell posters maybe doing incorrectly that would be preventing them from tethering?

Not that I could really see. I followed the notes in other posts in regards to setting it up as another modem on the laptop.

I had a user with an older O/S and we just bumped him up to 4.1 and he was up and running.

What number are you looking to dial to make the connection?

I downloaded the Telstra build some time ago and received the exact same result:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=24911

Today, running one of the new 7250s that Bell Mobility is shipping with OS 4.1.0.303 and PRL 31012, I'm submitting this post from my laptop while tethered. I am not using the Voyageur software ... although Voyageur does, in my experience, do a very nice job of configuring the network settings.

I've fought with tethering under the Telstra OS with the older PRL and gotten nowhere. My assumption is that the new PRL is 100% neccessary for tethering on Bell Mobility's network. There may also be something in the OS build itself that isn't present in the Telstra release ...

For interest sake:

The IP range I am receiving that gives me full tethering is 161.x.x.x. My Default Gateway is my own laptop's IP and I have DNS servers in the 198.x.x.x and 209.x.x.x

Hmm, I think you may be right in regards to being very carrier specific. I am using the Telestra build on mine and did not update the PRL and I got it running. I looked at the Voyageur software and it looked like it would be nice and easy to take care of the settings with it. I searched for a similar item for the Telus BB's but could not find anything.

Do you know if Bell has posted that software release yet?

Default Prl

Ok are there any other techs in here ? I cannot see the need for any "special equipment" to update the PRL. I could see maybe software being needed and a laptop with USb ports thats it. there are no other magicports on the BB 7250. So if someone has this software and and image from one of the newly released Bell 7250's we could all flash our BB and get on with.
I mean economics is the driving force here. Unless the devices do t OTA with a low power signal within a RF cage.

Any techs with thoughts on this ?

You're absolutely right. The hardware involved in the flash upgrade will be a PC and a USB cable. It is the software solution that is, as yet, unpublished.

If you know of any way to extract the necessary level of information from the BlackBerry and a way to upload the resultant image to a new handset please let me know and I will try it out with the hardware that I have on hand.

I know with Telus we can dial in and get a PRL update. I think it would take some real digging to find a way to pull that out of the device.

Correct me if I am wrong but the PRL is different for every provider?

Yes PRLs are different for each provider AFAIK

try dialing #HELP* and see if the PRL version appears corresponds to what we're seeing on Bell Blackberrys - I could be wrong but I suspect it will differ

Although I'm not a tech I have a wee bit of a technical background. I think flashing a device in a faraday cage would kick ass using a low power RF transmittor - but I'm just crazy like that

I guess the $1,000,000 question is who has the software, and who can flash our PRLs.

Also a question I asked earlier - will 4.1 bring MMS to our Blackberrys?

Default evdo upgrade

went into 2 bell world stores today in the downtown toronto area - the comments out of both of them was the same... both knew about the upgrade, said the new units had the software loaded onto them, but they had no idea when they'd be able to do upgrades...

I have a friend of a friend who works at Bell and she's asking our corporate rep for the "unofficial" word. Lets see what happens

So they are saying to load the 7130 software on the 7250s and that will work, as long as you do a PRL update?
