I personally prefer NewsGator Go over Viigo. If you also use the desktop application, the two stay in sync which is nice.

The synchronization side of what NewsGator does is great, and the reason why we partnered with them (NG Go is based on our FreeRange application - though functions quite a bit differently). The ability to read things only once - whether on the phone or on the BB, and not have to wade through it again on the other screen, is a real advantage.

The link in the email they sent me didn't work, clicking on it in the email on my BB. I had to use the "copy link" option from the email and then pasted it into the BB browser, then it downloaded and installed fine, and seems to work very well (though this is the first RSS feed client I've tried on my BB.

Jon - any way we can get the theme from NG backported to FR, maybe a new 2.2.9 version of FR? I really like the UI you guys did with NG, it's smooth - would love to have it on my FR install - minus the yellow highlight bar. (that yellow kills me)

Regarding the differences - think of NG as 'Standard' and FR as 'Pro' - FR has more knobs to twiddle (i.e. with NG you can set maybe 3 basic cache config options. with FR you get a whole bunch more for fine-grained control). Several other places reflect this difference in tweakability. NG however supports the combined device/desktop reading situation which FR doesn't, so if you need that then NG would be your better choice.

I agree. I'm still using FR because of the images, but NGG somehow feels a lot smoother.

NGG seems really smooth for sure... but no images is a killer for me.... back to Viigo I GO!

Another deal killer for me is that there is no automatic updates for NGG. I like having my updates ready when I want to read them and not download them when I first go into the feed.

This has been saddening me a bit. When I first bought my Blackberry and looked for RSS programs, I ran across NGG, but immediately saw that it was some sort of Freerange spin-off and somehow had the impression that Freerange was definitely better and NGG not worth my time. So I just ignored NGG. Now that I am trying it, I love it. It is smoother than Freerange and I also love the synchronization they provide with their Web desktop reader and the "clipping" feature and other goodies. And now I see that they charged $30 for the subscription, which is still high, but sort of acceptable. Better than Freerange, that is definitely steep. If NGG went back to a paid subscription model and displayed images like Freerange does, I would subscribe. Maybe I could have begged for images back then if I had been a paying customer, but now that it's gone freeware, I assume it has practically become abandone-ware.

Viigo displays images for free, but I totally dislike Viigo. I'm not going into that all over again.

I agree. I downloaded and have been trying it out. Having to wait for the feeds to update makes it feel a lot slower than FR (which does this in the background).

I don't need all of the settings of FR, but the lack of this one (and a couple of others) is enough to keep me from using it.

VIIGO seems a bit slower to me than I realized. What about NGG?

If you don't like Freerange, forget about NGG. I think NGG works better (except for the lack of images), but they are very very similar. If you've never tried Freerange and NGG, then you definitely should give either one a try. Probably Freerange. NGG feels better, but the lack of images should be a deal breaker to most people.

NGG is not really slow, it just doesn't have automatic updates. You can leave Freerange running in background and fetching new articles periodically, so whenever you click one it's already there ready for consumption. NGG doesn't have it ready, you have to wait until NGG fetches it, but I don't think it is slow. It's been typically 1 or 2 seconds over my EDGE connection.
