Default UMA losing connection to WIFI

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,
Im having a problem and i am new to both tmobile and UMA... My phone has wifi enabled and i have disabled the radio so i am not at all connected to a cell tower or experience hand off issues.. My issue is that UMA will sporadically lose connection to UMA but the phone is still connected to the wifi network with inet access... im experiencing this every 10 mins or so.. and when i lose the UMA icon i have tried to call the phone thinking it was some kind of hibernation mode but i received my voicemail .. any work around or fix for this. .is this a known issue?

thanks

Many things can cause this. Check the wifi diagnostics and see what the error message is. Go to Manage Connections >Wifi Options. Hit the menu key and select "wifi diagnostics." Scroll down to UMA and see what it says. It will give an error code like w006 and then give a brief explanation.

The most likely cause is your router. What kind of router and is it's firmware up to date?

it is an apple router.. im sure the firmware is up to date..also i dont get an error code.. it just drops the signal of the uma.. wifi is still enabled tho with internet access.. its almost as if the UMA server kicked me off but everything else is still active.. there is also no error code... just "establishing UMA connection" when i have lost signal

What OS version on your BB.

When you say "you're sure" your firmware is up to date, what does that mean? This type of behavior is typical of a router problem.

Just realized you're using an 8900. The 8900 has a few issues with UMA. It could be that. Does the same thing happen on other wifi networks? Also, the Airport Extreme has historically had issues with the BB and UMA.

i'm having the same issue with my 8900 running .133. I have duplicated this problem on my work wifi, home wifi, and Panera Bread wifi. I will upgrade to .144 soon and see if that helps at all.

Is this a software issue or a hardware problem with the 8900?

I had the same problem with my time capsule, even after opening up the 2 dedicated UPD ports and assigning a static ip to the phone, the calls were still dropping after a minute or two. After talking to an @home rep i went to the store are picked their branded linksys router ($20+tax w/ a $20 mail in rebate), i've cascaded my TM off the linksys and no dropped calls nor signal ever since...loving that UMA

i have the same problem with WIFI being on and recognized, but no UMA signal. This happens at home, and on my school's campus, UCSD. Kinda defeats the purpose of WIFI connectivity.

You can be connected to a wifi but unless the necessary settings and ports are enable you won't get the UMA to make and receive wifi calls. A lot of routers ship w/o IPSec protocol configured to allow such connection type, check your router settings.

what does it mean if my wifi diagnostics says my UMA connection is successful but there is no UMA symbol on my home screen?

Try turning off the mobile network and see what happens. In Manage Connections uncheck Mobile Network.

I'm also having the same problem with the UMA losing a WIFI connection at my dads. But at my apartment it works perfect their both ATT 2wire routers so I don't get it. Also both are up to date as far as the firmware on the router. I hope T-MOB addresses this issue, its a really nice feature when it works!

Most problems that you encounter with UMA are usually due to the router. The same exact router with two different firmware versions can act completely different. Are the firmware's exactly the same? Also, it can be the ISP. There are many reasons that UMA can have issues.

I spend considerable time traveling overseas and have found that what John said about the routers to be true. Also, once my BB "mates" up with a router, it easily does the dance the next time.Doing the battery pull also does help with getting hooked up to UMA. I'm having issues now with my new 8900 and I'm going to experiment with the different software versions to see if that will help.UMA for overseas travelers is a huge benefit and I'm hoping Tmo doesn't ever decide to lock us out like Rogers did in Canada.

I am confirming that when I travel outside Canada with my Rogers 8900, UMA does not work. Gives a "location not allowed" error... That just about kills the usefullness of UMA right out of the gates..
