Default Some users having intermittent difficulty sending

Please Login to Remove!

I have an odd problem that is driving me nuts. There are about a dozen users out of 500 that can't send initially. And by initially, I mean that when they compose a new message, it won't send but if they try to resend, it will eventually go through. It may take 3 or 4 resends but it goes through. There is nothing special about these accounts that I'm aware of. They receive mail fine and other than two exceptions, their calendar syncs fine as well. Restarting the dispatcher service or even rebooting the server may give temporary relief but if it does, it's broken again within a few hours. I should also mention that pin to pin messages work during this time.

I can't see anything in the logs that show an error. Event logs are clean as well. I didn't scour everything but nothing struck out as a problem. The specific error that shows up on the device is:
Quote:
{username@domain.com} Send() failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=16868641
I'm running BES 4.1.4 MR4 for Exchange with Exchange 2007. The BES is running on adequate hardware with more resources than it needs. It has 2 teamed gig NICs so the connection to Exchange is plenty fast. The BES is behind a somewhat flacky firewall but if that were an issue, I imagine it would affect all users. Exchange is not behind that firewall. It's also not a problem with the cell network since affected users are on different networks. Any ideas???

Thanks!

What error is diaplayed if they open the message on the BB, look at the Message Status. Also, have them check their signal strenght and network indicator.

The only thing they see is:
Quote:
Message Status All attempts to resend failed

Have you tried resending service books? What is logged in the HH when you press Alt+lglg? Any error there?

hugh, are they in the Midwest or immediate Chicago area?

There is an AT&T data problem there right now, this morning.

Thank you for the replies. Resending the service books did not help and since these problems have been around for about a week, I doubt it has anything to do with a cell network problem. Checking the device log of one user didn't result in anything useful.

At lunch today I decided to remove the flaky firewall from the picture. I also did a reboot at the time. Since then, everyone I've talked to is currently working but I don't know if it is because of the reboot or the firewall. Usually people will start experiencing problems again after a few hours. I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks again,

I should also mention that mail to the devices has been significantly faster since I removed the server from behind the firewall. In one case, the mail was on the BB before it was seen in Outlook. Hopefully this will clear it up.

Time to get a new firewall ... but get that server back behind some security device; there is no reason for it to be exposed ... ever.

So far things are still going fine. As for the firewall, unfortunately we have no control over it. Our network admins have been struggling with it for a few years now and it hasn't been getting better. We have the server locked down pretty tight with IPSec so I'm not overly concerned. But hopefully we'll have another solution soon.

Thanks,
