Does anyone know from rumor or experience whether the Pearl or 8800 will synch with Mercedes Bluetooth "puck" system?

I have the Mercedes Bluetooth interface module. While the bluetooth connection works for calls, the phonebook will not download to the car and the BB voice dialing will not work. My 8700 worked perfectly.

I have a Cingular 8800 and it syncs the phonebook perfectly with my Audi bluetooth MMI system. I know that is different than the MB system, but you are saying a previous BlackBerry DID sync its phonebook with your MB system, so the MB system clearly has the ability to sync this type of data.

Check the settings on your 8800. Go to the menu in the Bluetooth settings application on the BlackBerry, select "options" and see what is set for "Address Book Transfer". I don't know what the default setting is, but it may be "disabled". You have the option of selecting "All Entries", "Hotlist Only", and "Selected Categories Only".

Try setting it to something like "Hotlist Only", to test if it will sync. That won't have too many entries in it. Your phonebook might have 1000's of entries and could exceed the memory capacity of the Mercedes system. I know that when I first tried to sync my entire phoneboook, it only synchronized entries through the letter "G" at which point the car system memory was maxed out. I don't know how the MB system is set up, but trying it out with a much smaller data transfer should give an indication about whther that function works.

There is also an option called "Transfer Address Book" in the first level of the menu within the Bluetooth Settings application on the BlackBerry. I have never used this, but I just clicked on it to check it out and the BlackBerry immediately started looking for my Audi MMI Bluetooth which is the only one of the paired devices that supports this function. So you should give that a shot as well. I am going to try it out in my car tomorrow to see what it does, because now I am curious.

Also, I don't know what your pairing procedure was, but I had the best results when I allowed my car to initiate the pairing and then accepted the pairing on the BlackBerry, vs. having the BlackBerry seek out the car system to do the setup.

All I can say is that there is definitely hope. Clearly, 1) the MB system supports address book sync (as demonstrated by the fact that your 8700 could sync it's phonebook); and 2) the 8800 supports address book sync (as demonstrated by the fact that my 8800 syncs its phonebook with my car). So my guess is that you will be able to get this to work when you find the right combination of settings.

Good luck.

Have experience with BB 8700 and 8100 and two MB products.

05 G series with the puck - will only upload 99 entries from a motorola product (q phone) does not upload bb at all but can use the phone in simple bt mode and allows in and out calls and will begin and end with steering wheel

07 ML with MHI - 8700 uploads first 99 phone number and works perfectly as does the 8100.

I have the MHI and it does work fine with 8700 but won't sync with the 8800. I called wireless4mb and they were worthless.

THis must be a setting issue because the first 99 entries from my 8100 sync automatically with my 8100. Can't believe it is any different on the 8800. Did you get them to recognize eachother?

Yes, the pairing process went fine. The bluetooth connection is fine ... dialling, receiving calls, speaking, etc. Just no sync of the phone book. Strange because, as I mentioned before, the 8700 snyc'ed just fine.

Mercedes have just released a new bluetooth module which has been tested with some Blackberry models.
whnet.com / 4x4 / phones_Mar12007. html (sorry, can't post URL's)

Up to 4 handsets can be paired with this unit at any one time. If a 5th is paired, the first handset paring drops off, and so on.

Current approved handset compatibility list:
Blackberry 8700, 8707: SIM contacts only transfer to car address book.
Sonyericsson K610i, W550i: SIM contacts only.
Motorola PEBL U6: both SIM and phone contacts.
BenQ-Siemens EF81: both SIM and phone contacts.
Nokia 6111, 5300: both SIM and phone contacts.
Nokia N70: No contacts displayed.

To date, no other phones have been tested.

Have tested the new MB HFP bluetooth puck (noted in above post) with my 8100 Pearl -

Works great, sound quality excellent

Phone book (not SIM) downloads to cars display

Remains active after engine off & key out - you have to manually disconnect from the phone menu to transfer the call to your handset, but this is seamless. Was funny first time I forget to do this and my fiancee's voice kept coming from the car as I walked up the road

Not tested if voicedial works yet

This issue seems to have something to do with the bluetooth services on the device itself. I have a 2007 ML320 CDI with the bluetooth MHI kit installed. For blackberries I have an 8100 (perl) and just upgraded to an 8300 (curve). The perl worked fine placing, receiving, and loading the address book. The curve could place and receive, but no address book upload.

I think it has something to do with the bluetooth profiles that are supported by the blackberry software because I just updated my perl today with the latest software 4.2.1.154 from 4.2.0.x and now my address book won't upload just like the curve.

I am planning on calling blackberry to find out what changed in the software and what I can do to get the perl and curve uploading the address book. If I find anything out I will post it here.

Ok it has been verified as an issue with Rim and not MHI kit for the Mercedes. I spent several hours on the phone with RIM today to roll back the software version on my Pearl and now the address book loads fine as it did before.

The Curve is another issue as there is no older version to roll back to. RIM did tell me that this is a known issue and should be resolved in the next update to the software. Of course they couldn't tell me when that update would be released.

Default MHI and 8830

Does anyone know if there is the same issue with the 8830 and the MHI kit? One might assume...

What version of software did you have to roll it back to on your pearl to get it to work?

Confirmed that the 8830 will work with the MHI; call in, call out, no address book or recent calls.
