Default Can't add my GMail apps account to BIS

Please Login to Remove!

I have my own domain name and e-mails were managed by my webserver. I had my e-mail account set up in Telus BIS but I move my emails to Google apps and now I can't add my e-mail account to BIS.

It can't detect settings automatically and when I try to configure it manually, it's set to IMAP and then I don't get instant push like it's supposed to be with GMail...

Any ideas?

back in the day (about a year ago, lol) when google apps was just hitting mainstream, I had to call my carrier's data support and convince them to connect me to RIM.

the RIM rep i spoke with understood what i wanted to do, and was able to reconfigure the BIS to recognize my domain as "google-ish" enough to work like gmail does.

and its been working fine since then! (knock on wood!)

I have 3 domains on Google Apps and when I set them up I simply entered my email address and it auto detected the Gmail settings. IMAP will only poll for messages every 15 minutes for some reason. It isn't push. For push you have to do the auto detect thing so that it sets up as POP.

How long has it been since you moved your domain to Google Apps? If it was recent your changes in your MX records might not have made their way around.

Try setting up your hosted domain on the BIS site the same way you would a normal gmail account, except for the username use [email address].

I am almost positive you can log into your hosted domain thru the regular gmail site using that method. If you can do that, then it should work on BIS. I don’t think the server can discern whether or not it’s a hosted domain or a free gmail account, it just plugs in what you set as the username.

Default Call BBerry

Instead of calling Sprint to do this for me after reading horror stories, I called BBerry support directly. Yes, I know it is free if you go thru the carrier, but I would rather pay the money, have it done right, and move on. They checked the mx records to make sure they propagated, and after about 20 minutes on the phone, he had be delete my old POP3 settings, and readd into BIS. It saw now that it was GMAIL type for my domain name, and started pushing. Only thing is sent messages get resent to the BB as well, but created a rule that was mentioned in the forums to stop that. Been working 48 hours now, and no issues.
