You guys notice that Engadget is speculating it has a camera (referring to this thread lol).

I'm new here, but have seen a few people from here around HoFo from time to time (been on HoFo for a couple years now). I'm thinking about getting my first BB device, but have been holding out for an EDGE device I can tether with (8700). Any idea if there's going to be a 7130 GSM device?

I went and took some time to play with a 7100t, and I found that I actually really like the SureType (didn't think I would). Qwerty is great, but I'm such a heavy t9 user now that the hybrid of the two was pretty easy for me to pick up.

Anyway, might pick up a 7100t unless I knew that there was going to be an EDGE SureType device coming out in the next few months... thought I'd get your speculations on it.

Thanks,

-olly

*EDIT* might look at 7105t, since it's coming out next week (or so i've been informed).

Wow, for being such a ridiculous newb (and as of now, non-blackberry user), I must say I'm pretty blown away that my post made engadget.

I agree with what several of you have said. On first glance, it doesn't look very attractive and seems like it will be high maintenance to keep clean and smudge free. After you've looked at it a couple of times though, it kind of grows on you.

While I've been thinking about switching to Verizon once this unit became available, I now think I might wait to see who releases the 8700 and may go to it instead.

Well you probably won't see the 87xx on VZW until mid 2006. I just hope they release the 7130 very soon. I'm having withdraw without my BB!!

I am with Verizon now, and I can't wait for this device to come out. I had a 7100g with Cingular earlier this year, and the reason I dropped them (and the Blackberry) were:

1) web browser almost unusable due to rediculously slow GPRS data speeds
2) falure to include unlimited TCP data for 3rd Party apps in their "unlimited blackberry" data plan

I currently have a LG VX8000 with Verizon, and while I no longer get push email, the speed of the wap browser is just awsome. I cannot wait to be able to browse HTML @ EVDO speeds. I played with the Samsung i730 Pocket PC phone in the store, and browsing was like using broadband on my home computer. Finally a portable device where browsing HTML sites will be feasable.

Also, my understanding is that Verizon includes unlimited TCP data in their standard blackberry unlimited plan.

They are also $5/month less than Cingular when you get their smartphone bundle plan.

The only downside is that I will have to give up the awsome camera I have in my LG phone.

The real question though is when is this available? I get pounded daily about when my users can get this.

Although this is not concrete I just had a meeting with a Verizon large accounts data manager and he brought with him the new 7130, Samsung SCH-i830 (CDMA/EVDO/GPRS, which will work with Vodaphone overseas; this device was rumored only to have been a GSM version of the i730 but obviously it is the first hybrid PDA phone of its kind), and lastly a LG clamtop that is like the T-mobile Sidekick. They hope to have the 7130 available before the end of November. They also hope to have RIM's software upgrade for the 7250 for EVDO by the end of this month. They are actually going to offer plans that allow you to use it as a wireless modem on EVDO. This is something they (or samsung) disabled on the SCH-i730 that I also been using which a customer service rep put on a vcast plan and my company pays $45 a month for unlimited EVDO and 450 min. I told my sales rep and he is worried that I might get charged so I have our AP department looking out for the bill.

The 7130 is a little thicker and heavier but it feels more substantial then the 7100t. The 7100t seems like a toy. I liked the fee and weight. The icons were much more nicer. The keys are separated like the 7100g. I liked it much better then my 7100t. The device will get noticed because of its color but the screen was like that of the 7100t. All of their Windows Mobile devices will get Blackberry Connect as well as an option. They will also be carrying the Motorola franklin or "RAZRBerry" which most news sites has reported only being GSM. So it looks like Verizon is going full force in the PDA hitting all sides of the market except for Symbian which Nokia and SE don't make many CDMA phones anyway.

I wrote up my findings on pdaphonehome.com in the SCH-i730 section since most of it had to do with Windows Mobile side of things. Here is the link if you want more information on the other products:

Did it actually look like the picture I posted above? What did the shiny bezel thing look like in real life?

Yes it did. It is tinny bit larger then the 7100t. This helps I think in the spread of the keys. The face has a black surround. The screen looked just as shiny as the 7100t. I also like the weight better as well. Message screen was better. The message interface was different. Didn't bother to check the OS but it must be 4.1. Wasn't very interested in the latest models of BB so I did not dwell too much on it. However, my director was playing with and actually like it (he is a 7250 user).

Definitely coming soon. Just talked to a Verizon guy who said to wait. He said it is coming very soon. I'd agree. They are now offering a 100 rebate on the 7250. They only do that when a new model is coming out.

Anyone know if they're going to offer a good deal on the data plans? I love verizon but their prices scare the crap out of me. I have tmobile here in NYC and I pay about 85 all in for voice and unlimited data. I think Verizon would be well over 100.
