Default T-Mobile Discontinuing 8800???

Please Login to Remove!

I just called T-Mobile to do an upgrade and they told me the 8800 are no longer available for upgrades. If I open a new acct, I could purchase it but not for an upgrade. Only ones listed available are the 8700 and the Pearl. I question why and of course they had no answer.

I called a second time just to confirm and the 2nd operator explained the same thing to me. He added that they usually do this when they are going to discontinue carrying a device.

Anyone else heard of anything? Thx!

Likely because the 8820 and 8320 are about to be released in the USA. Both contain WiFi, an integral part of the Tmo@Home service program.

I'd like to say this is most likely the case, however it's all speculation right now. TMobile has not said a word as to when their releasing a Curve with wifi, as well as the 8820. Arrows point to at&t getting the 8820 first, and who knows if they have an exclusive on the device. Like I said all speculation right now, we'll just have to wait and see!

Well, I guess that depends on your definition of "about to be." There have been NO announcements from T-Mobile or RIM about 8820 availability on T-Mobile, so I would guess that means at least about 3 months away. Which makes it highly unlikely as a reason to pull the 8800 now.

I was told this is because T-Mobile will be launching the Curve.

But the Curve and the 8800 serve two different markets.

After the numerous threads I've read, the T-Mobile Curve won't be out until September because AT&T has a 90 day exclusive contract on the Curve. So it doesn't make sense that they are discontinuing the 8800 so soon... But who knows, I hope they do release something soon! I am desperate to ditch my crippled 8830, and move to a device with WiFi.

Also, shouldn't this be in the "Rumor Mill" section? I've seen several posts regarding this topic in that section...

Could be true. AT&T is pulling the 8800 for the new WiFi 8820.

Default When is AT&T releasing the 8820?

I just got thde 8800 and I love it. If I had one complaint it would be its in the EDGE network and not 3G. I can't give up the internal GPS though.

They give me 1 month to change my mnd so that means I have 2 weeks left to do that. If the 8820 is about to be released... maybe I should say NO to the 800 and use the 8820.

So any idea when???

I would recommend that you wait (for the 8820). I mean, the cellular signal will still be EDGE, so that won't change. But if you happen to be close to a WiFi signal than you can take advantage of that. It will drain the battery faster, though. I really hope T-Mobile gets the 8820 and an 83XX device. It would be nice.
