Default Nextel - BB 7100i - SMS texting

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB 7100i thru Nextel and I understand I can only send text messages in MMS, but it is my understanding I can receive SMS messages. Even so I rarely if ever receive SMS message from my piers. I notified Nextel of the problem and they had me reset my phone which worked for a minute at most; I received one message, since then I have yet to receive another SMS message. I used to receive 20 - 30 a day. This is a huge problem for me. Does anyone know if this is the BB model or if this is the Nextel network? Any information would be greatly appreciated

Is this the case for the whole network and SMS text messaging? or is this just an issue with the BB 7100i model.

Sorry, I’m a bit confused... The 7100i is the best Nextel BB, according to yourself, however it is terrible with text messages which is something that is very important to me and just about everyone using cell phones these days. Just to be clear there is no better Nextel BB or comparable PDA phone out there? Being in construction and needing the Direct Connect functionality only offered by Nextel I'll just have to suffer thru the poor text service in order to utilize the DC service?

yes that is correct nextel just sucks at SMS always has always will. I am in construction as well and I dropped nextel in January because of the lousy service. Its amazing how much more I get done by not DCing all day.

Indeed -- texting with Nextel sucked. I had a 7100i with Nextel for a while. I ended up switching to AT&T for the Pearl. SMS/MMS actually works! ;)

I've had the same problem with my 7100i.

If I shut down the phone, remove the battery, and put the battery back in, I will get SMS messages for about a week before I have to repeat the process. Even then I get SMS really slow most of the time, hours after it has been sent.

Nextel seems to have written off the iden network and basically given all of us the finger telling us to wait for the fully integrated Sprint/Nextel combination phones and BBs because they don't seem to really give a crap about updating software or fixing bugs such as this.
