Correct me if I'm wrong...BES stands for "Blackberry Enterprise Server" and BIS stands for "Blackberry Internet Service".

What is the difference between the two?

You are correct. Here are definitions of both services and other services.

BIS
Stands for BlackBerry Internet Service. This is your @blackberry.net email account, which you can access via a web browser, in order to configure your BlackBerry through a web-based interface. You can also read your blackberry.net emails on your BIS account. This is the new name for the BlackBerry Web Client (BWC).


BES
This stands for BlackBerry Enterprise Server. BES turns a BlackBerry into a powerful government-quality secure email system with full wireless email and PIM synchronization, including email folder structure, moves between foldres, deletitions, unread/read indicators, etc. An administrator can even kill a BlackBerry remotely through BES when it gets stolen too. People who need inexpensive BES, can see the Hosted BES FAQ. BES also provides MDS capability, which is generally higher-reliability than the recently available TCP/IP stack found on BlackBerries.

MDS
This stands for Mobile Data Service. It's a method of Internet connectivity for a BlackBerry. that is provided by a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Thanks a lot I'm looking at the link you provided. It looks like there is a wealth of information on this forum so I'm going to search around and I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

For the average consumer like myself I think the BIS would work fine. Is the major difference between the BIS and the BES 'control' and 'security'? Does BIS still allow you to 'push' up to 10 email accounts?

The is a diffrance of security on BES and BIS but for the end user minimal outside of an "IT Policy" that BES can push down to enforce security. BIS is where the 10 email accounts come number you are getting comes from. BES is more 1 E-Mail Server account then anything else. There is a LOAD of info on this site and DO SEARCH everythign has been talked to death especially BES and BIS diffrances. Also, do a search on forwarding to get true "PUSH" out of BIS accounts.

BES best used for people that need seamless interaction with MS Exchange/Outlook, Lotus Notes/Domino, or Groupwise on corporate networks. BES also has a useful purpose with personal power-users run run personal or hosted Exchange server. But, BIS 2.0 is still a very nice service. BIS really shines with POP or webmail-based accounts. Of course there is some overlap. But that is the executive summary
