I had to get a new phone because I lost my bb pearl. So, I got a blackberry curve, but I had to sign up for a 2 year contract. Now, when the blackberry bold comes out, can I terminate my contract with t-mobile for $200 dollars and get a free blackberry bold using amazon rebate system?

I would pay for a blackberry bold when it comes out if it costs 200 dollars but not 400-600 dollars.

Morally, this is cheating the system, but it is legal and works right? Other people, like you guys, have done it?

That is assuming that you will be able to get it through Amazon for free. Currently the 8820 on Amazon with rebate is $99. I would not expect the Bold to be any cheaper than that and probably more.

The 8820 does not have a rebate I think, but the blackberry curve has a rebate where you get 99 dollars back after rebate. However, you have to keep your service for 6 months to qualify for the rebate. However, that is a great deal if you want a new phone every 6 months. You simply pay early termination fee of 200 dollars to get a phone worth 400+ dollars.

don't forget about those secondary contracts!!!

The carrier itself does not do it, it is for 3rd party dealers cause normally they will discount it more than the carrier.

What's a secondary contract? Another contract you sign with the 3rd party which is if you cancel within a certain time frame of activation (usually 120 days) they themselves charge you a fee (in the $200 range) to recoup their comission and cost on phone.

Why do they do it? Cause the carrier does chargebacks up to 6months to these dealers, meaning they lose the comission and sometimes the phone rebate. It's their way of protecting themselves.

Why do you need a Bold for TMo? There a others more compatible. You can't use 3G, so unless you just want a brighter screen and more on board memory, why not get a curve?
