Default How can I tell if my BB is unlocked?

Please Login to Remove!

I searched for and found a thread on this topic, but it is two years old and closed, so I'll post my question here. I checked the BlackBerry FAQ and found instructions and screenshots there that I thought would answer my question, but the results on my 7520 don't match either of the results explained (How do I determine if my BlackBerry is "unlocked"? - BlackBerryFAQ

In the FAQ, it says that if the BB is locked, it will show the Network as ACTIVE, and if unlocked it will show as DISABLED. On my 7520, it shows as UNKNOWN.

Yesterday, a couple of members talked me through the process of wiping the program and reinstalling the OS. Is this why it shows as UNKNOWN? I bought this unit at the swapmeet, so I don't have any idea what its history is.

Is it locked, or not?

Moved to a more appropriate section.

The 2 year old thread is probably still valid given the age of the 7520. It is almost archaic in cell phone lives.

AFAIK, the 7520 is a Nextel iDen device and can only work on Nextel. Therefore unlocking does nothing.

If you want to use it on Boost, then it might work as is with a Boost SIM, but you won't get any BB services.

The old thread may have been purged, as it only shows the first post (http://www.blackberryforums.com/blac...-unlocked.html)

Boost is a possibility I have thought of, but Nextel will give me a lot more functionality.

I guess my biggest concern is that it is blocked/locked because of being lost or stolen... always a risk you take when you buy something used at a swapmeet. Now that I've been able to get into it, and get the phone number, I find that it's a San Diego number, so I may be able to find the previous owner. Time for a little Googling, I guess.

Thanks, Dubdub! Once again, I appreciate the help!
