Default Getting all emails with an IMAP account

Please Login to Remove!

I just moved my email from a POP3 to an IMAP account. When I had the POP3, since my emails were being downloaded from the server when I was online with my laptop and my mail app open, they would never make it to my BB. Only when I was not using my mail app on my laptop did I get emails on my BB. I liked it that way.

But now with my IMAP account, I get EVERY email on my BB regardless of if I have my mail app open or not. I didn't anticipate this happening, but once I thought about it, it made sense since IMAP doesn't take an email off the server til you delete it, so it's virtually always available to be pushed to the BB.

Is there any way to get my IMAP account to work with my BB the way my POP3 account did? I'm on VZW using BIS. Thanks.

Does you new mail provider offer POP service as well as IMAP? I believe when I was using 1&1 Internet Inc. for e-mail I could use the IMAP or POP protocol to receive mail. I would check on that because just using POP would allow you to set it up like you did before.

My mail provider (.mac w/Apple) does offer POP mail, but the advantages of using IMAP, at least for me, outweigh this disadvantage of getting all emails on my BB.

Looks to me like this is just the way IMAP works and there's no way around it. Once I realized it worked this way and then understood why, I didn't think there was a away around it, but I thought I'd ask to make sure. It's not desirable, but I can deal with it.

My IMAP service Fastmail (FastMail: fast, professional email services with web, SMTP, POP & IMAP access) allows you to create pop links, which, depending on your plan, will pickup your POP3 mail up to once per hour into your IMAP inbox. As long as I shutdown Outlook on my desktop when I leave the office, I get both my IMAP and POP3 (with the hour delay).
